  1. good advice. I will definately do that before bringing it inside.
  2. Not sure exactly. Mum brought it 7yrs ago and up until may of this year it has been in use, why? do I need to check something?
  3. hey all... due to the re-laying of floors etc we have delayed the tank getting up here. Precision freight are shipping it up next friday. Woo hoo..very excited and a little nervous.. must get the panels on the walls finished before it arrives or I dont think I will ever finish our foyer. So I guess I will be on the hunt for new fish by the new year, once I have things up and stable like.
  4. cool.. might even have another one tonight to celebrate the late arrivals.
  5. Sorry for the thread dredge but has there been any other south Auckland meetings since this thread? I have been pretty busy and not been in touch with anyone but still wondering what sort of interest there is.
  6. Well as at 5pm Monday evening we have 7 'hatched' bn babies and at least 1 more still trying to break free from the egg pile. :bounce: The kids are pretty excited. All action around here. So after staring at the breeding net for over an hour I thought I would let you guys know cause I think I needed a break.
  7. Thanks for all the advice. Just waiting for the little guys to hatch now. Thinking around monday or tuesday will be about time.
  8. I thought dad needed to stay with them to 'fan' the eggs? no? and there is an air supply underneath the breeding net already. So all good there.
  9. eggs and dad are now transfered into a breeding net in the spot where they were laid. A bit iffy on whether or not they are ok though. I think I saw dad eat one...hmmm. Time will tell I guess. Thanks all
  10. yes out in the open. Top front righthand corner of the glass beside the thermometer. :-? Might have tried to lay near the driftwood but mr bling the pleco is living there and the sae took over the pipe so I guess the corners were the last option? I have 3 very concerned children that want me to put a divider in the tank to protect them but the one I have is too small so might have to go for a wee visit down to pet store for a larger one.
  11. My 2 bn which I thought were still too young to be spawning just spawned in the top corner of the community tank. Looks like they quite liked the new filter. Its got quite a bit more of a current going. Anyway. What do I do? I have a bully of a pleco who I suspect will chomp on the wee eggs/fry given half a chance. Some neons and glowlights and 2 sae. Can I move dad and the eggs into a breeding tank successfully? How do I get the eggs off the glass without damaging them and what do I stick them on in the breeding tank if anything? Or do I just leave dad to his own devises until the eggs hatch and then try to separate them?
  12. Thanks Gannet, I will do that Will keep you all posted
  13. the stand and the tank come apart obviously and yes we have a van..but its gonna cost over $300 in petrol to go down ourselves and moveit have just quoted around the $200 mark..so cheaper to do it that way.
  14. What a lovely offer but I am quite sure it would not fit in a car. The tank is around 1.4mtrs long and with stand, sits about 1.6mts high.
  15. I cant drive down and pick it up with a trailer as I have a broken foot and am in a moon boot. Hence why I was looking at getting someone else to do it.
