  1. Yes they are. They are fussy eaters and are scared of many of our native fauna, however when they are kept well fed and given adequate mental stimulation they can be very interesting to watch
  2. If I could I'd have a pet ..... I would have Ira.......In an outside enclosure of course
  3. That's great news, your plants must be happy. The flower spikes should have no problem reaching the surface but even if they don't barclaya will still self pollinate underwater and unopened
  4. Add E.martii to the list which still hasn't flowered either
  5. A few red seedlings are just starting to germinate now The red parent flowered a few months later than the green
  6. Over a year ago I threw a heap of Barclaya seeds into a tank to see if could propagate them. After six months nothing had happened and I promptly forgot about them. A couple of months ago they all decided to germinate and even after moving 30 or more to other tanks and selling a similar amount I still have a barclaya forest
  7. I love panda's Have your emeralds ever spawned? Show me your Barthii
  8. Good Job, How about a trail with the intake in a bucket on the floor and the outlet in the tank then visa versa
  9. That's great to hear. I look forward to seeing a photo of your tenellus carpet in the near future.
  10. A lot of the damage looks like BN damage to me. You should also think about going back to adding comprehensive and iron
  11. as long as the fx5 has 5/8" (16mm) outlet tube
  12. What ferts/trace elements are you currently using? What fish are in the tank?
  13. I have never seen a packet of epsom salts with dosing instructions for E.I on it. I imagine that the instructions are for using them as bath salts
  14. Awesome, I think you should send a bag up to me so I can do a parallel trail.
  15. Yep that's way too much. I dose 1 teaspoon of MGSO4 per 300L with every 50% water change.
  16. I use rainwater that is stored in plastic 25,000L tanks as the main supply of water for our household. In the summer months we happy drink water that is a few months old and that hasn't been refreshed by any new rainfall. Your week old water will be fine
  17. This sounds like a promising idea Where did you source the Turface from?
  18. This might work http://www.trademe.co.nz/electronics-photography/other-electronics/other/auction-444324902.htm
  19. I have seen polystyrene bean bag filler used as floating filter media in a commercial aquaponics set up.
  20. You get it from here http://www.hydroponics.co.nz/ Being water soluble I don't think it would be a good idea adding it to your substrate.
  21. 57g EDTA Fe (13%) in 1000ml of water - Dose 20ml per 300L. This equals 1.14g Fe per dose Many of the trace mixes on the net contain 7% Fe so if stokers was similar you would need to dose 16.28g of trace mix to get the 1.14g of Fe :dunno:
  22. According to the plantedtank.net calculator 57g EDTA Fe (13%) in 1000ml of water - Dose 20ml per 300L It's much higher than what Jen told you but I think I will give it a go and see what happens
  23. Yep, I get the same message
  24. The chart from the net was for 11% Chelated Fe and Stokers is 13.2% so dose rates will vary depending on concentrations but not by that much. It's not only red plants that prefer high iron levels, sagittaria for example. Agreed....its time for some more research
