  1. I'm not sure if I like it or not :? It sort of reminds me of a Japanese pagoda garden. I will give it a few days and if it doesn't grow on me i will have to do a rearrange
  2. Most cats prefer a cave with only one entrance, whiptails are the the only exception in my experience. I have never had a pleco get stuck in a cave but I suppose it can and does happen Caryl I hadn't given dead spots much thought really but my tanks do get regular gravel vacs so I dont envisage any problems. I already have rocks and wood in my tanks that have much larger footprints than these.
  3. Thanks. I like the look of the slate. It looks more natural than terracotta or pvc etc etc. It will also blend in nicely with all the other rock in the tank.
  4. I decided to make some slate caves for some of my cats. I started with some pieces of slate, a dremel with a diamond blade and some silcone I cut the sides and backs of the caves with the dremel Then siliconed the backs and sides to the base The roof of the cave is not siliconed just in case I want to get into the caves in the future. Thanks to Navarre for supplying the pieces of slate
  5. Are we talking about the. Bumblebee pleco or The Asian bumblebee catfish or The South American bumblebee catfish ?
  6. Pretty amazing claims http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pe ... 549307.htm I would put this in the "if it looks too good to be true" category
  7. I was of the understanding that boiling your tank was less likely to happen with a s/s heater as they use an electronic thermostat and not a bi-metalic strip like most glass heaters
  8. I would imagine 2 years + if kept refrigerated but may be wrong
  9. This is a suggest guide that I often see on the net. 1.5 litres of water for each centimetre of fish length (1 gallon per inch). 30 square centimetres of surface area per centimetre of fish length (12 square inches per inch). Of course there are many factors that can influence the above guide like. filtration, aeration, surface agitation, water change frequency etc. Not to mention the types of fish that are being kept.
  10. Isn't a canister filter a pressurised system? Unlike a sump which is unpressurised
  11. Not if you put your finger over the top of the straw and create a pressurised system
  12. So when both the intake and outlet are below the surface, the differences in water pressure between the two have no influence on head ??
  13. So if in the above scenario my outlet was 1mm below the surface, I have zero head. If i raise my outlet 1mm above the surface I then have 600 head
  14. I beg to differ Ira. Head height is the difference between the intake and the outlet. So if your tank is 700 high and your intake is at the bottom of the tank and your outlet is 100 below the top of the tank, then you have a head of 600
  15. Out of interest i just went and tested one of my CF1200's It pumped 4.5L in 30 sec = 540 lph I also checked one of my sunsun 1400lphh canister filters It pumped 5.0L in 30 sec = 600lph Neither have been cleaned in a few months. Perhaps its time i did clean them. I would be interested in the results from others It only takes a few minutes
  16. When my free plants or fish reproduce I give away at least twice as much as I was given. Then if i choose to sell some I have a clear conscience.
  17. * runs to get the popcorn This could get interesting
  18. What doesn't kill us makes us stronger All possible positives KP
  19. PM Supasi. Im sure that he treats all his plants with KMn04
  20. Nice. It would be interesting to see if they survive in a tropical environment.
  21. I don't know if discus eat snails or not. My guess would be that they may eat small ones but not bother with the larger ones Someone else may know for sure.
  22. I keep and breed them in some of my planted tanks. They have never touched a plant. Mine prefer to eat uneaten fish food, green algae's and dead leaves.
  23. Blue Mystery snails eat algae and decaying plant matter but don't eat live plants
  24. If she is in berry and has no male to spawn with she will just absorb the the eggs. Keep an eye on her just in case the swelling is a different problem like an intestinal blockage. Perhaps be a bit pro active and feed some shelled peas just in case.
