  1. Good choice Jen, Gold nuggets are on my list of favourite pleco's. They are territorial fish and can be quite vicious towards each other if you keep more than one in a tank. Having said that I have kept am L018 and an L081 in the same tank for a few years now without any problems and I know of others who have done the same without any problems also. It's just a possibility that you need to be mindful of.
  2. Have you seen this http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pe ... 771408.htm
  3. I assume that you are feeding raw prawn? I have been feeding cooked mussel meat for quite some time with no negative results. Cooked, shell free mussel meat can be purchased quite easily or steam them open yourself and free flow them in the freezer.
  4. Have you tried mussel meat instead of prawns? It is more cost effective than prawn. I am unsure of the protein level but it must be similar
  5. Psudotropheous Bristlenosus
  6. One of the most important considerations is to make sure that the joists are at right angles to the wall that you want to put the tank against and not parallel to it.
  7. The following is a list of responsible fishkeeping guidelines that I have posted elsewhere. Feel free to add to the list. Dispose of unwanted fish in the most humane method available (whilst obeying regulations) Never introduce any exotic organism or plant to any area that may enter a waterway Dispose of used aquarium water and any fish corpses far away from any waterway Help educate the public of the consequences of an exotic introduction into our waterways Prevent any cross breeding (hybridisation) of different species
  8. It would be hard enough getting water in them in the first place LOL
  9. Slightly off topic. I was thinking of buying this http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... =292571082 It has end on tanks and they are all drilled but look how tall the tanks are in relation to the shelf above
  10. I have a bank of 6 fry tanks end on. As Ryan has said it purely to maximize space, They are no that different to work on as long as the shelf above isn't too close. I have tanks that are 50mm off the floor but I have the ability to run a hose out the fishroom door and onto the lawn which is quite a bit lower so getting a strong syphon is not an issue.
  11. It would take a lot more than that to make me bitter . I am well aware that my taste is often in my backside . Opps better get back on topic before the big stick comes out again
  12. Thats ok, we are used to it
  13. And don't forget to turn your air pumps off if you have any.
  14. And where does ancistrus temminckii fit into it? http://www.aquariumpassion.com/profiles ... nckii.html Those Calico longfins look nice
  15. In my opinion threads such as this are a valuable part of any forum. They allow experienced fish keepers that have genuine concerns over the ID of any particular fish to discuss those concerns, and at the same time allowing less experienced or newer members to learn more about the fish in question and that just because any given seller has xx years of experience does not mean that the fish he/she is selling is what they say it is. False ID's happen all the time in this hobby, it is more prevalent with African Cichlids and Catfish. If threads like this save another member from buying something that potentially isn't what it is advertised to be and that some sellers seem to mis-id fish more than others then they have served their purpose.
  16. Its not mine. It's very similar to mine, perhaps a bit bigger
  17. Yes thats how I understood it too Ryan
  18. Barrie. This is for you. I am sure you will enjoy it http://www.thejesustv.com/main/media/52 ... rican_Pie/
  19. Barrie, we do have a warehouse in motueka, It has been here for about 5 years. Initially the locals were all like you and poo pooed the thought of it. Soon they all realised that the red shed bought more people into the community from outlying areas, small business's thrived and the main street went from having every second shop empty to being a busy and diverse town centre that provides employment for far more people than it ever did.
  20. Wasn't it supposed to be the end of the world when the red shed came to town or kfc or mcdonalds etc etc. Sure ,those that could not compete either fell by the way side or changed their target market or became more specialised. Yes some jobs were lost as business's failed but others were created at the same time I believe that with the creation of the Internet and the ability of Internet users to source their own products if they so desire that business's will need to evolve just like they have had to evolve in the past.
  21. Thats right Zayne. Don't try and save yourself any money. Don't buy in bulk from overseas so you and others benefit. Don't try and make any money yourself (only the lfs is allowed to do that) Don't believe in a free market economy where those that supply a good quality product at a good price will do well while the others fall by the wayside. And Don't listen to Barrie
  22. Correct. Its just a fancy way of drying/dehydrating them and keeping most of the goodness.
  23. I have imported a few kg of freeze dried bloodworm in the past. I got them from these guys. http://www.brineshrimpdirect.com/search ... Bloodworms
