  1. Of course I remember macka, the vet was so thrilled to be treating a fish How is the Oscar now??? nice one Pegasus, my friend in Texas used the salt bath to treat her discus too.
  2. Sounds like it may have been an injury Ira. What makes you think it is popeye??? I ask because a friend had a (sorry to say the word) discus whose eye sorta popped and it had been injured escaping a plec. She medicated and although the fish is blind now he healed well. The plec went back to the store. She also had a d......s injure itself on a log and that too healed with help - that one retained the sight it seems. Maybe the discus are just a hardier bunch  However back to being serious .........I am sorry you lost a fish that is always hard

    Hewwoo!

Hi there Aqua (I like the name ) Welcome to the fishy forum. When you upgrade I suggest that you get the biggest tank you can afford for then youhave a bigger buffer from any beginners mistakes <---this has been my experience. Are you testing the water for the ph and Nitrate levels. That was the biggest best thing I did when starting. That and not overfeeding the fish.
  4. Would it be that the mussel just happened to have the right bacteria. I mean it is a shell fish?? :-? I would go with the danios or maybe guppies. Just a couple to begin with.

    Tank $?

Shilo it worked for me when I transferred to new tank. I rinsed the new tank out well with fish antiseptic (masterpet) just to ensure no bugs n such were carried over. Have fun in setting up.
  6. That would be greatly appreciated john1 if you would It sounds really interesting.

  11. I believe that the poor humble bumble bee only bites not stings.
  12. It is called a 'learning curve' Ira. I have always added culture with every water change. Always changed the carbon. I was sooooooooooo good. Then when Caryl introduced me to the forum I began to learn from everyones postings and dared to try different. Now I am a fish in midst of change - still being careful not to throw the fish out with the changes LOL. So folks plse keep posting and teaching  Much appreciated.
  13. n1 glad to hear Santa dropped off what you wanted most
  14. The idea was to get the tank running. Check out the heaters etc Allow the gravel to clear to put in the bacteria culture starter :-? and then put a couple of fish in. Thus beginning the cycle. worked for me.
  15. I too was listening Ira. Very closely for I run a 304 and it is due for its' clean out this week. Merry Christmas to you and your partner 8)
  16. of course. I sure hope you got all your fishy children pressies and wrapped them nicely.
  17. I found that when I first began my tank, the water turned cloudy whiteish, and was told by my mentor that was normal and would clear. It did. He also said DON'T put any fish in until three weeks after it had cleared. This apparently gave the good bacteria to build up and colonise the tank. Then he suggested two guppies to begin with. I take it that the stones/gravel etc has been well rinsed. Probably by now you have solved the problem and are well on the way to putting the fish back. Oh I have found that Stress Coat or Aqua plus are good starters.
  18. 8) thanks guys/gals I gave them both a good wipe and smooth over. So far so good. It has almost been a week now.
  19. Just recently my shark II filters have been sliding down the glass. It seems that the stick has gone from the sucker thingies. Has anyone got any suggestions or solutions?? I have had them for 3 -4 years without problems. The rubber is sound seemingly. I have thought maybe roughing it over a little however hesitate in case I ruin them.

    Hi I'm Merlin

Nice one Merlin. WOW seven tanks already. sighhhhhh envy envy :-) U go Merlin. I will keep an eye out for your answer on the slime thing I have had a minor prob that way and just keep washing it off every water change until it ceases to be. Merry Christmas to you and yours.
  22. I missede the deleted mssge. However here is my 2 pence worth. Andrew I appreciate you are sincere however the following is my experience. Keep it impersonal you can warn - do not buy a fish with clamped fins. Shops are ppls livelihoods and every owner/manager, I am sure, is willing to listen to complaints (and compliments). For that is one way that they can improve or better their business. Most business rely on happy customers. One negative comment could ruin years of work and investment a person has put in. Maybe due to negligence/ignorance of a new employee so I agree the board is not for singleing out one person or shop., If I had a complaint I would first go to owner/manager. Then to consumer complaints or animal welfare. I always give the owner / manager a chance to put things right. They are human too and suffer from down days and stress gets to us all.
