  1. Double congratulations there. I had not realised it was a double spawning. Re the FNAZS I automatically became a member when I joined the Marlborough Fish Club. The magazine, which is quarterly, is posted to me and well worth the read. The subscription is included in my M Club subscription - which is only $15 per year. There are other ppl better qualified than I to share more re FNZAS Also there may be articles here on site. I have not fully explored this site - yet.
  2. Congratulations R u handing out the shrimp pellets Did you have the bettas in a separate tank or are they in with the gouramis?? Have you removed the female??? Have your registered the spawning with the FNZAS? Again WAHOOOOO WTG.
  3. Thanks everyone, Caryl, Pegasus, ajbroome, cat, dennis, bobsvinyl. The tank is now in the repair shop - fish all in their temp homes & doing well. The two clown loaches are checking out the four resident clown loaches - hopefully they will all party and hang out together peacefully. Big thanks to Macka for loan of temp tank. Oh while at the glaziers I happened to order another tank - roomier LOL. There were no obvious leaks, however the seepage was real. The tank is only three years old. I did not have any bracing on it. Would that make a difference?? Approximately 3.5 foot long and 1.5 feet high and wide.

  5. How did the talk go Derek??? What did you end up talking about???
  6. I have the fluval 304 and it too has three trays - each with two compartments. One is filled with bio-max one with charcol bits and the final one is half bio mix and half charcol. The other side of the filter has four sponges - which are easy to rinse. I have been faithfully renewing both the bio-mix rings and charcol pieces. This is costly - done every four weeks. From reading this forum the bio-mix rings will now only be rinsed. Thanks guys. Makes perfect sense when I think about it :-?
  7. u mean 'BIG FRESH' Caryl I have not been to the Animates in Papanui so that will be interesting.
  8. Avatar still there Caryl. thanks for the suggestion however I have got the afternoon off work to strip the tank down and check it out. Macka has lent me a tank to temp house some of the fish. Neons, peppered catfish can go in tank with young guppies. clown loaches in with discus. Angel, kribensis, siamese algae eater into the temp tank. wood plants inito discus tank. oh my h oh for a several tank back up. What does everyone else do for such a contingentcy??
  9. I use a shark 2 which hangs inside the tank. Will check it though and the u/g There was more water on the cupboard top this morning. It is a slow leak if it is a leak. Tank is fuller than normal since my last water change -maybe it is something like that. I will get a chair n climb on so I can check the back and see if something is not drawing the water out. The water level is still high. I am now ringing around some ppl to try and beg borrow a spare tank. 7 am only fishy ppl would understand such early call re an empty tank.
  10. Just about to go to bed and of course checked the fish. A lot of water under the angel tank. (1 angel, 2 kribensis, 1 peppered cat fish, 2 clown loaches, one siamese algae eater & 20 neon tetras). Mopped it up and panicked. Slowed the panic down and checked all the glass I could - no obvious leaks. Remembered I had rearranged some plants etc. Maybe I slopped it all over. - surely I would have noticed, I clean up as I go. Had hubby check. He suggested the bottom glass may have crack in the bottom. Tank is level and resting on polystyrene. So it will be night checks. Hubby is home tomorrow so can keep an eye on it. Apologies for the chatting however I do when nervous - This is a nightmare. Just checked again. Definitely seepage.
  11. With my tank, I added the salt and then just did a weekly water change. Because I reasoned that the salt needed time to do its work and in leaving the tank alone I did not further add to the stress of the clown loaches.
  12. Welcome @ndrew I believe that plain ol oxygen weed is GREAT for having in goldfish tank/pond. Redwood Aquatic sells good plants and gives good advice re establishing them etc. Good luck. Good to hear about older goldfish doing well. I see so many leave shops in bags to be placed in small bowls etc. Makes me sad.
  13. I agree with Midas & Wayne re the salt. I successfully treated my clown loaches this way the one time they showed some ick. Was cured almost overnight. I learned the hard way not to use chemicals when treating a tank with clown loaches in. They die.
  14. Oh no lol soon you both will be buying out the next door neighbours to have more room for your new tanks LOL
  15. and...............macka lol what are you planning on getting through Megan (Riverside Vets buyer)???
  16. well macka just give her a ring and ask. Whatever Brooklands have to offer her - she has access to. What has been yr latest purchase??
  17. Welcome Macka good to see you found and registered :-) Be great to start up a club here in Ashburton huh??? Great group here on this site and big welcome again.

a belated welcome Grant as I rush out the door to work .... the fishes delayed me again :-) Wow that was a lot of fish to introduce all at once. I suggest it may pay to moniter the ph and nitrate/nitrite levels for a wee while. Good luck. Plecs are great aren't they????
  19. Danny thanks for sharing. I am sure I lost a beautiful marbelled female angel due to bloat - due to my ignorance and overfeeding on blood worms. Hard lesson. However now I have confined myself to serving such food as treat and not very often I have found that the tanks stay cleaner and the fish happier. REALLY 102 Tanks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  20. Thanks Andrew for the links much appreciated I will hand them on and also give her daughter the link to this forum.

    Fishy hello!

Welcome Clare. I live just down the road - 80 kilometers down the road. If setting up a goldfish pond I suggest that you visit Water world in Blenheim Road. If you have not already done so. They have quite a set up and you may get even more ideas from there. Let us know how it all goes. May the weather be kind to you.

  24. Hi there guys n gals, a workmates Mum is shortly going to be suffering from the 'empty nest syndrom", and plans to replace her daughter with 2 turtles (probably the most common). She has been asking me what sort are best for a first time turtle owner, what does she need tankwise, lightwise - like do they need a heat lamp? etc etc Please all the information that a beginner may need to know. She has an offer of a tank - old fish tank. What do they eat etc.
