  1. Cheers Wayne, I think this is the vets first time operating on a fish, but in his defence his friend from uni is working with marine fish in australia and has been seeking info from him. The pearls gill covers are curved on the edges so it is going to a slight trim compared to some of the pics of ops you see, he is just really ugly with these gills curved, such a shame for he is a really nice fish.
  2. My pearl arowana has gill curl and i have a vet willing to do the operation but i cannot find the required info to give to him for knocking the fish out so he can trim tne gill covers for me. Does anyone know what to use, any help will truly gratefull.
  3. Thanks for the condolences (think i spelt it right) , it actually had a series of seizures really strange almost like a heart attack. You could see its skeleton through its scales when it was having a seizure. It had a total of 6 attacks over 2 days and was drained of life, i couldnt find any info on this aliment so i am still no wiser. Has anyone else had this happen? Poor fish. None of the other fish where affected thank god so thats why i thought it was possibly a heart attack or something similar.

    Hey

Welcome David, hope you enjoy the forum, I was wondering if you have any photos of your black arowana
  5. Dont forget about the zebra plecos for $189 and the flowerhorns for $59 plus tropheus mooris for roughly $50 upwards (many different colour morphs available). I recently lost my second siam tiger it was about 25cm, so jonathon is a loner again . I am a reluctant to add one so small in with him as it would fit in his mouth , so unless someone has a full grown siam they are willing to sell (which the person would have to mad to ), he will have to hang out the oscars. Have you tried fresh shrimp or prawns from the supermarket most fish cannot refuse these. I almost forgot about the killie fish. There are a few varietys available as well. dont ask me what varietys are avail as i dont know sorry.
  6. Could be hole in the head disease? Is the white stuff pus looking, and are the holes like craters?
  7. What two species of fish are breed to make flowerhorns?, maybe those two fish are allowed into NZ, just a guess.
  8. I actually think there is now more fish available and sortly more will be taken of the prohobited list eg Flowerhorns etc .Asian arowanas where taken of the prohibited list last year and come to think of it a few cichlids as well, you only have to take a look around the LFS to see there is more variety available than ever before, just got to be in the right place at the right time. I actually thought MAF where looking at the fish that could live in temperate conditions like chinese high fins, minnows and some barbs, thats just what i heard
  9. Just out of curiosty where did you get them from and if you dont mind how much as my partner wants to set up her own tank with puffers.
  10. I would shell out 5G for an asian if i had 5G as you can triple your investment every year if it is a perfect specimen and well looked after. I certainly would for an red fuision arowana as some adults are being sold for around 100G mark upwards not bad for a initial investment of $6500.

  13. Sorry i havent been around for a while guys and gals as the last month has been a hectic one, so anyway the move was a success, all fish have settled in well and are back normal behavior (eat sleep swim poop breed and of course hide) Thanks for the offers of help but we got it done all ok . I only lost 3 neons, 4 lemon tetras and unfortunately my :cry:six barred distichodus which i will be replacing very sortly. Maybe get a couple so i can watch the interaction. I will say sorry now as i have not set back up my pc yet but i will try to get everthing back up and running as soon as possible as i have new photos of the fish and setups and some photos of some other peoples tanks and fish a lot of big, unusual, beautiful fish pics to come So see you all again sortly
  14. I dont think im going to have to wait till i move as the male has chosen a new cavern and there is a female dancing around the outside of it fingers crossed, hopefully they are not teasing me
