  1. ssure is great Pegasus. The guppies I have were spawned by the adults I got for another member in the fish club. I know a little (enuff to get me into trouble ) The fry are growing at a rapid rate although still too tiny to completely distinguish details of colour etc. Are you interested in them. ?? Who else out there has guppies at the moment??

    Hi from Delta

Gidday Dianna. How long have you been breeding the Siamese Bettas?? Sounds fascinating. Do you breed for colour?? Are there other sorts of fish that you keep?? Again welcome welcome welcome 8) 8) 8)

    Hi.

uh oh Pegasus. Did your wife happen to sell them to Brooklands?? For I purchased some from work (bought from Brooklands) a few months ago October. They were rather nice specimans and as I had not seen any buttercup ones I bought a male and female, as well as two of the blue tailed females. These went to a guppy breeder in the Marlborough Club and the resulting fry and now growing in my tank Around 25 - 35 survived the adult guppies and all are growing well.
  4. Chappie at Pet World, Ferry Road, Christchurch is big in marine fish and sells the equipment etc, His phone is 03 3890 870 I think his name is Eddie. He certainly knows his fish and fish keeping. So maybe he would courier what you need up. Best of luck.

    Hi I'm Merlin

Is it possible that the slime was partially caused by over feeding.

  7. Glad to hear they are all on the mend. Nice one Richard.

    Hi.

hI YA Welcome to the fishy forum. Sounds like a good start. I also began with guppies. Surely they are the rabbits of the fishy world. What colours are yours??? I have just had spawning of a gold male over a gold female and blue female. Around 25 / 35 fry survived the parents. They are doing well. Again welcome

  12. Welcome Klatoo What sort of fish are you pondering on Sure is part of the addiction the planning and imagining isn't it.
  13. <---------------------turning blue at holding my breath to see what happens next. Fins are all crossed Warren, praying for the bestest results.
  14. sleepless. whew so dislike these hot nights. :-? I am fish watching of course. The puter just happens to be in same room
  15. WTG Pegasus. I too love to watch the different things the fish get up to. The official name is Syphon Python for the tap hose I am looking for Southern Petwares' web site. I know that there was one a few months ago. They are in Stevens St Christchurch.
  16. We dropped in on our way South after the Napier auction. They certainly do sell fish and I would caution that you only take your budgeted amount and no plastic - the temptation will be great. From the little I heard the gentleman selling the fish was giving sound advice and was not just there to make sales. I sure love the salespeople who take the time to share how to better look after the different fish and encourage them. It will be worth the trip.
  17. Well done Derek sounds totally absorbing. Wish all shops would send their staff on a seminar held by ppl like yrslf. HEY maybe you could run seminars and charge zillions for attendance  Seriously though, it is great that you are willing to give you time and knowlege.

    Hi I'm Merlin

How long has the new tank been up and running Merlin??? Did you put the 8 fish in all at once??? I also get a white slime perodically on the heater rubbers, filter rubbers and just clean it off when I do the water changes if it is there. I will be interested to see what other members say re this. I always just thought it was good bacteria living in the wrong place? I am also a relatively newbie at fish keeping. Ain't it wonderful
  19. I use the small Hagen test kits. they do the job for me. The shark I have tried both ways. Also on the top is a small dial thingie which you can set from 0 - 3 for the flow aeration adjustment. As I have tetras in the tank I have settled for 0 and have the filter only just submerged. When I had the goldfish I had it just out of the water as the fish seemed to enjoy playing in the resulting turbulence. The white thingies in your u/g filter end are most likely Zeolite which I also use on mine with the charcol. How did the tests go Jadie?

    New Kid in town

Howdy thereKriber. Glad you found your way here.
  21. The Syphon Python is one of the best inventions EVER for fishy people. Yes they are an expensive item ($150 up retail - $90 wholesale) You may pick one up cheaply through a buy sell and exchange magazine or trade me or garage sale. Southern Petware (they have a website) have them as do Masterpet. The Southern Petware is the real thing and the Masterpet have a cheaper version. They come in two sizes - one has a 25m tubing and the other a 50m tubing. Go for the 50m one - you can always shorten it. Good luck. The other is good ol' buckets and the gravel vacumn thingie which you fill with water and then vacumn the tank gravel while holding the other end over the bucket.
  22. Welcome Kriber to the fishy forum. Sorry I have no experience with such heaters. Yay another Cantaburian What sort of fish do you have. Would you put a little post in theWelcome part about the sort of set up you have and the sorts of fish??? I would love to know. I run tropicals 2 tanks plus a small hospital one. Welcome again.
  23. Welcome Jadie I found that the PH, Nitrate, Nitrite & Ammonia test kits invaluable when I was starting out. The shark 2 is a good filter and I am still using the one that I started out with. I also use undergravel filters (my tank is a tropical one) Although I did begin with goldfish. I started with a 10 gallon tank too and uncycled (What was cycling - I just did not know about such things). Resisting buying fish is soooooooooooooooooooo hard Even now I have to leave my purse with hubby when I just go to look around fish shops. Soo many fish and so little room See I am now nattering so welcome and so glad you made an appearance ..... I was beginning to think the site was haunted with ghosts LOL. Welcom Jadie
  24. Flowing tails are just to irresistable for some fish. I rescued a poor frazzeled guppy from work and put him into the hospital tank - his tail grew back and looked splendid. So I added three females and now I am overrun with the babies. The adults have been sold on. So if you can, I suggest you set him up in his own little kingdom and harem. Best of luck.
