    Hello again.

smiling at Franks wrong story. LOL yes please love to hear about DIY gadgets for they usually are money saving and like you I have not won lotto. Unlike you I take ages to potter and have to try every which way before finding the proper which way. Yeppers I am not a natural technical person however I sure enjoying fiddling about and just watching those fish glide around.
  3. How would the frozen food (bloodworms) work. I thaw it out and feed that in place of 'live' food.
  4. How far south cat?? Are they coming to the mainland . Maybe they will set up again - inspired by what you do with their old tank. Great find
  5. Great to see you here Frank. How did you get hooked into fish keeping?? Wow you tanks sounds full Are you planning on a 12 ft tank Welcome again.
  6. ty ty First place I head when home from work is the fish forum. well after watching my own fish for awhile and seeing how their day has been that is So enjoy all the chat and information that flies around.
  7. Great to see another new fishy person. You are actually more experienced than I (I have only been hooked for 4 years) I began with guppies. Welcome
  8. Welcome to the fish-o-holic forum colinmarshall SO good to see another Discus lover. I still have the two pigeon blood discus that I got when I first began fish keeping. Such a wonderful fish. Welcome again.
  9. The 25 that I have are now approaching two months of age and only now are the colours fully coming out. So fascinating to watch. Guess I had better separate them all before they all interbreed. Are you setting up separate tanks for the males and females Delta??
  10. Dennis it was a good time. We dropped in on Macka - fish were awesome. Next day we went to Christchurch and toured around some fish shops. The best was Organisms in Illam Road. I cannot wait to return there and purchase some rummy nose tetras at $6.75 each. This time I just bought plants. The shop was clean, well set out and fish all healthy. The guy knew what he was talking about. Excellent shop. Hope he gets the trade to stay open. I ran out of energy before i ran out of shops and returned home.
  11. To date all is true. I consider it to be a great addition to my tank. So subtly beautiful and you are right ........... seems to thrive on whatever it is feed.
  12. on one of my tanks I have the caps that fit over the ends of the flourescent tubes. These caps are flexible and will fit any length tube ......large or small. They can be bought at most pet shops and probably at most lighting shops. The tubes fit into clips which I have screwed in the tank hood ......... clips were specifically made for the job. I am the least technical person you will find and so everything HAD TO be simple
  13. <---big grin for John1. ty I was not taking it personally However it is great to read the posts and glean whatever I can and I am sure others are doing the same. My set up is very simple .................................at the moment. We can all dream.
  14. I just could not resist and when one came into work I bought it. At the moment it is a juvenile and is in the 80 litre hexagon tank with two angels, two kribensis and a flying fox. All are pretty independent fish and the tank is peaceful. So pretty. I am planting it with valleseria to one side and around the back, on a terrace. To the other side I have built terraces of rock for them. This large hexagon tank is perfect and now fully stocked I feel. (not to capacity - to the comfort of the fish). I amusing a u/g filter and a Shark II. Any info on keeping the geophagus jurupari would be appreciated.
  15. Totally agree with all Caryl said re the shop. Also they guy knew what he was talking about and yet did not talk down to me 8) Great shop, Great service, Fish and plants were all healthy, clean and easy to view. Also dropped in at Animates in Papanui Road, staff were very helpful and I got a couple of plants there. However they are still on learning curve like myself
