  1. Exactly. They adapt. They evolve. It is the way of the world. In our precious little country the range extends from sub-antarctic to sub-tropical rainforest. Anything is possible.
  2. Haha one day old and look at that hair.
  3. Well this topic does get thrashed doesn't it?! I am all for NZs native ecology and precious biodiversity. I do agree it should be protected. However it seems that the agencies endowed with this task are bundled up in a massive amount of bureaucracy and red tape which is seemingly unnecessary in such volume. Are these processes and restrictions really justified or is it merely another archaic system that has been in place too long and is overseen by people who ought to have been moved on long ago?
  4. GVing will suck up the debris which has settled and fallen out of solution. If you leave it there then it will get stirred up again either by 'scaping the tank, or by the fish which are put in it. Isn't the whole point to get rid of the material from the gravel which is now in solution. Using an Eheim ProII filter only has the capacity to cycle the tank water 3 times per hour which is not very much IMHO. Therefore water changes help remove a lot of the particles. The tank is newly acquired. Water changes will not affect the cycling adversely.
  5. That is cool. Do you have a pet croc in the marshy part?
  6. Do you have a gravel vac syphon? I suggest you do some BIG water changes. A few 75% part water changes. IMO that is the best way to remove particulate floating matter in an aquarium.
  7. Here is a blog I found interesting on a lot of types of algae. http://www.aquariumalgae.blogspot.com/ It may help you some
  8. LMAO it is supposed to read 0-0.3, and 0.3-0.5mm Inert sand means it does not affect the pH of the water in any way. Yes it is safe for Aquariums otherwise I would not have suggested it. Aragonite is another type of sand with buffers the pH higher. It is used for keeping African cichlids and sometimes in marine setups.
  9. We have been calling it Peanut for the last nine months. And it isn't a real human until it starts talking lmao.
  10. I got mine from Mitre10 Mega Wairau Park. 25L for $5.30. They have 0-3mm, or 3-5mm Bags. That is if you want inert sand.
  11. Well kind of. My close cousin had a baby girl just after 5pm today. She was in labour for 38 hours. The baby was over 8lbs. Eight days overdue. This is what she looked like on the weekend. I am planning on visiting it end of the month. Yay.
  12. Welcome. I liked your <5g planted tanks, good proportions.
  13. If it was only 4L total gross volume, and you only had a Betta in it, then why have a filter at all. You could go all natural. Just replace 75% water change every day. Google natural aquariums, they are a filterless system. As for lighting, you could just use a desk lamp.
  14. Here is a cool link to Free streaming. Episode of the Blue Planet - The Open Ocean. The Open Ocean
  15. Sweet. Baby Angels are cool. Good luck with them.
  16. Do a serious clean and take it all out.
  17. What have you been eating Gorgeous?! Huh? Huh? Clearly not enough healthy stuff lol.
  18. If you are *going* to set it up, just don't add any snails.....then you won't have a problem and need them removed.
  19. As far as I can tell the hydrogen from the acetic acid binds to the chlorine making hydrogen chloride gas.
  20. Morning. So far there hasn't been a "good" in mine. It wasn't frosty here, but still cold. I have gotten Dry Socket from my tooth extraction last week. Pain is about 8/10 right now, with panadeine.
  21. "not terribly impressed" is hardly airing dissatisfaction. Come on now.
  22. That is a pretty cool costume Caryl. How come there was a themed dinner? Was it good food?
