Hi and welcome. Merely transferring water is not cycling. Cycling refers to the process of establishing the colony of Nitrogen eating bacteria in and on the filter media. What would cycle the filter faster is putting some media from your existing filter in it, then running it on the existing tank for a further week or so. Then transferring it. Keep us posted

Have you tried boiled peas rather than courgette? Boil them, shell them (it will fall off), they sink, and put some in the entrance to their hide out. My young BNs had a field day with them.

To insulate a canister you could use thick filter floss stuff and a woolen blanket.

I too like the darker river sand. I have west coast beach sand which is a nice mix of dark. Fine sand creates a soft effect which I like IMT.

Hi Geoff. What size tank is it? What filter do you run on it? What are the ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH readings? By usual water changes how much do you do each week?

I got one of these 2nd hand. Cost ~$15 for a replacement set of taps. Works fine, no leaks, starts all good when I clean it. Easy as.
