  1. I think the idea of a bag leaching toxins after such a short space of time is utter bollocks! If the fish are sold from the store then the bags are new. They are made to be safe for fish. IMO more likely reasons the fish die soon after purchase are either poorly acclimatized or the fish were sick or overly delicate to start with.
  2. With a newly setup tank this is to be expected. Do lots of large water changes and it will go away soon.
  3. Sheeps are the stupid looking 4 legged things in the paddock. IMO They are not valid creatures until they are covered in rosemary and garlic and roasted slowly, or sliced in a thick rich curry LMAO The road was 95% clear now today with no more snow predicted. Should be fine up until Friday then showers. We saw all the Sheffield Pie signs. Next time. We have to stop at the historic Jackson's Pub too. Navarre it was a real flying visit. You know how it goes: there were four in the car and the little one said "shut up I am driving....." ROFL. We were dropping my sister at the airport and catching up with friends. Then we had to come back to get some other stuff done. So didn't get much free time. Have to be next visit. I would love to come over for a TT meeting one Saturday. My new fish have settled right into the tank by themselves. One of them is not swimming much though. I will keep a very close eye on it. Yeah it was pretty awesome. Here are a couple more. The Kea were eating snow. I thought they were hunting for food, but no, they were eating the snow.
  4. So I went over Arthur's Pass for the first time. It is only a 267km trip to Christchurch. Because of all the snow it took 5 hours to drive there. We had to crack out the chains. First time for that too. We stopped and had pies at Springfield on the other side when we finally got there. Then Christchurch had a big wind chill and was raining so felt less than pleasant. Went to Organism. They are the most helpful people! The snow was sensational. Loads of cars were abandoned and off the side. Today it had mostly cleared, but there were black ice patches and a couple of livestock trucks had slid into the ditches. There were loads of kids playing in the ice and on the frozen lakes. The Kea are so much fun to play with at Arthurs pass. One snapped off a radio aerial from a van while I was watching. Looking west from Arthur's Pass Sheeps in the snow Castle Rocks At the top of the first hill on the way home Frozen lake Kea at the Pass
  5. Undoubtably there very well might be an undiscovered large species of catfish. However unlikely in such a hugely populated country such as China. Those photo's in that link are of a Whale Shark being butchered. This is the link to the Urban Legend website http://www.snopes.com/photos/animals/giantcatfish.asp
  6. Yup those are the taps. I have replaced about 5 sets on various CF filters. I paid between $15-18 a set of two. HFF Albany has had them in stock or ordered them in within a week when I asked them.
  7. I believe you should go back to school. Whale Sharks eat Krill.
  8. Do you mean the intake hose, or taps? The hose is only a couple of $/m from places like Mitre10. If your LFS sells AO filters then they can order you parts in if you can't find any second hand ones off a mate. If you are in Akld HFF usually has some parts in stock.
  9. They are wicked cool. I saw some at Mystics.
  10. HFF has live food. The containers have a phone# and email address on if I remember correctly. Could give them a call.
  11. Yes indeed. That was a funny story when I heard it from him. He was stumped that someone knew about the tanks. The Diedrichs have been here for the weekend. It's been great. However heading home is delayed at present. The passes never got cleared today, well not yet.
  12. Putting the hose up the intake works too.
  13. It has a blood mark coming up under the nail. So not cool. Could you hear the swearing from your place? It was pretty loud in my kitchen ROFL.
  14. Canisters Do Not Bounce I got my new canister filter today from the courier. I was rearranging the baskets of media to seed it and was planning on putting it on my 80g for a week until I got my new fish. Fate was playing her little games with me yet again. It was not to be. I rinsed the baskets from the existing CF 1200 canisters and successfully cleaned one filter. I then started on the second CF 1200 canister. I rinsed the trays. I then lifted the canister filled with cruddy water to empty it in the sink like the previous one. It slipped. It landed on my toe. The corner hit the floor. The canister shattered basically. I tried to catch it mid fall to no avail. Cruddy bacteria filled water splashed up my jeans, 20 feet across the kitchen. And I cut my knuckle down to the bone on the sharp edge. Seriously could all the accidents stop happening to me please????? Here's the photo's. So now I have one old canister plus the new canister running on my 80g. I ordered a new body from John for next week. What would we do without John?!
  15. Silly you, you should have thought of that! lmao I am so pleased to see that 5 people actually understand what you are talking about.
  16. IME/IMO Whangarei is about on par with South Auckland really lol
  17. That's a great acquisition A. Good for you. Post some pics when they are settled in
  18. Nah I got rid of 6 smaller tanks of fish and kept my loaches, Elephantnose and Redline Barbs for the 4 foot tank. Thanks. I really love the planted look with a sand substrate. If the plants grow with no fuss and little effort then I am happy. Anything fussy ends up gone.
  19. Personally I think Uzbekistan is prettier.
  20. Yes on both counts. It is Xmas moss. I thought I had some regular straight leaf Java fern but it seems to have disappeared, all Windelov variety now.
  21. Prescription ciggies? Are you kidding me? That is ridiculous IMO. I think there should be smoking area's inside at bars. Install ventilation systems and segregate it. People have been smoking for thousands of years. People have undoubtably died from smoking for thousands of years. So what? Life is short. Why do we need so many rules imposing on our everyday lives from a government that is seemingly run by inept plebs. Can't they focus on the important things in the world instead?
  22. Woot Woot! I looked over my receipts and found I bought my first tank July 1st last year. Here are some highlights from the beginning up until now. 3 foot tank Elephantnose 60g tank Platinum Angels Tree frog Night lights Glass Catfish school with Redline Barbs 60g Angelfish tank when the plants grew nicely 80g 4 foot tank before move 80g tank after the big move I am excited about getting my new school of Serpae Tetra's for my 60g at the end of this week.
  23. Yeah if you are growing tropical aquatic plants use a heater. Otherwise you could always go get some plants from the local streams and QT them or treat them with potassium permanganate.
