  1. Yeah if I hadn't been so tired..... Great all the fish are good! and Thanks Wilson. The South is awesome. What is with the cops always on speed patrol though. It seems all of them are out to catch you 30 kms around every town. Is there that little crime that the only thing they can do is sit around all day harassing people??? lol
  2. Nice. I love macro's of Insects.
  3. DON'T even think of letting it go! Good luck on finding a home. I would if I had a suitable enclosure and was closer.
  4. Thanks. My 80g tank is set up with all my plants and the fish. It looks a bit messy. I am setting up my 60 this weekend and transferring some plants. I will get some fish for the second tank when ever I make it over to Christchurch. Maybe in a month. I will take a couple of photo's of the tanks over the weekend.
  5. Driving from Auckland to Hokitika in two days is hellish. I have to recommend no one else does it. Lol. The drive from Auckland to Wellington was nasty. I left later than anticipated, at 4.30am, and it was rainy, foggy, and rainy almost the whole way. I got stuck in traffic at Paekakariki from that truck accident. Then I got lost in Tawa. After a good sleep the ferry ride was great. Rough out from the harbour for about 40 minutes, then calm and sunny. The drive from Blenheim down through the Buller gorge was so cool. I have never been south of St Arnaud. It was a challenge to concentrate on driving those long straights with all the gorgeous scenery. I got to Greymouth as the sun set. All the snow capped mountains were glowing pink. The first night in the house was nasty. Half the fuses were off so not all the lights worked. I had to set up my fish bins in the dark. It felt like -40*C. The gas was switched off. So I went to bed with my kitten. In the morning there was frost on the inside of the windows. The fish survived the trip well. But I lost 20 because of the water change, and too much copper in the water. I have copper remover in my canister's now and all is well. It took a week for the radiators to be connected. Two weeks for the internet and phone to be connected. But at least the huge fire heats everything up wickedly.
  6. Yeah I took an angle pair on an airnz flight a couple of months ago no troubles at all. I was told it had to be in a transparent container, that was totally sealed, that had no chance of leaking, and <7kg allowable carry-on baggage size. I double bagged and put them in a tall lunchbox container, taped around the top, in my backpack. I kept it on the floor in front of me.

    Tonic salt

Yeah I found the same thing. But from what I have read Aquarium Salt is largely unregulated quality and may contain unknown additives. However it is usually just the same as table salt, just sold at a higher price.
  8. As long as your fish are not showing signs of stress, and you do a water change, IME it is ok. Just check your nitrates.
  9. It was fs up here a while ago. I tried to grow it in gravel, sand, clay, on top of the substrate, with root tabs, in a plant only tank, high light, low light, ferts, Excel to no avail. Out of the 10 bunches I started out with I have a small shriveled up clump of 8 strands left. Clearly not for me I wish you luck with it!
  10. And the Muppets, with Pigs In Spaceeeeeee
  11. Come on Barrie, didn't you join the National Bank because of their cool Horsie ads on TV? lol A good bank manager? They all left because their jobs were outsourced to an asian country half way around the world. The only staff left are recent graduates. These are the people who passed the test of "The quickest to navigate through the automated phone system to get to an actual living breathing human being". j/k
  12. So I have no idea about growing things in sumps. But I understand cultivating critters in the grass. But are the critters free to swim from the sump into the tank, or do you have or catch them and move them into the main tank?
  13. Go The Acorn's I guess they are the last line of defense to save the human population against the dreaded mosquito.
  14. Thanks Caryl. The Grandson, Bill and his family are our family friends 6 degrees of separation.
  15. http://www.cnn.com/2008/TECH/science/04 ... index.html One good use for humans. Forward thinking. So much better than raping the land of virgin rainforest in Indonesia just so they can plant groves for palm oil to sell to the west.
  16. http://www.hagen.com/pdf/aquatic/CO2_Manual.pdf Ummm did you think to google instructions?
  17. I have contacted most companies and they are not willing, or they are asking a large fortune. Perhaps you could email that dude from Tanks2U and ask if he ships nationally. Getting tanks across Auckland can cost $100.
  18. The search is still there. Use the google bar at the top of the page. It is the search for the forum. Perhaps the mod's could remove the disabled notice.
  19. Also you could try some local roofers. They might be able to give you some old slate tiles they take off old roofs. I got some of a guy up this way a while back.
