  1. Canisters work on a syphon flow. You need to start it sometimes after maintenance. Lift up the outflow tube above the filter to allow the bubbles to rise. Then it should start the flow.
  2. And why didn't you invite me to this party? You can be so selfish sometimes Ira! lmao
  3. They have a bunch in the wildlife reserve over past Masterton.
  4. So you introduced other fish into a cichlid species tank. Why are you surprised that the fish are acting naturally, true to form?
  5. At a certain LFS which is in the process of moving perhaps??
  6. May I politely point out that you are responsible for what you have. You made the choice to live with your SO. If you have not taught the other half how to do domestic chores to your standards by now then..............
  7. I saw this posted around and found it fascinating. Even my non-creative brain got to wondering what I could make LMAO DIY & MODs (do it yourself / make your own) 3rd edition.
  8. Unplug the phone, power, and ethernet cable plugs from the router for >30 secs. Plug everything back in. Then restart your computer. IF that doesn't work then ring the help line.
  9. Most definitely when they are talking about the mechanical filter pads. IMO if a filter sponge fits, or can be cut to fit and is cheaper then try it out. You will soon discover the best ones to use. IME almost all filter sponges are very similar, and are merely variations of each other.
  10. Search YouTube for clips. There are lots of live feeding clips. A particularly interesting one where a guy feeds his a live mouse, it doesn't last long. That is about all you can get of them in NZ....
  11. Pretty like a garglesnarcher of course. Keep up! LMFAO
  12. Possibly squirting Flourish Excel (with a syringe/pippette) onto the BBA. Other than that I have nothing.
  13. I would say yes. Also if you were next door I have another spare 60L tank you could have to make your hospital tank
  14. Well do I have news for you! I know a person who was fired from an American Space Agency who has an ENORMOUS telescope who knows of a secret asteroid on a collision path with Earth. The good news is that it will kill all those people not obeying the fair laws of the planet. Also everyone else But if you pay me 17,000 kabillion dollars then I may be able to help you with transport off of this rock. But only if you are a pretty person. After all there is the populating of the galaxy to think of
  15. Well actually I was thinking of dredging up a ton of plants from Fiordland to sell on TM as newly discovered (not imported) fresh water ponds plants (plants as in the topic of this thread), and make a bit of extra cash (by fooling a few people along the way). So the customs etc agents will be all over the plants and not even see my Moose I caught, carrying the plants in its antlers Whadya think. Good plan?
  16. Just a side tracked thought. From what I have read around Carbon only takes thing out of the water for up to 48 hours (maybe slightly longer) and is mostly a marketing ploy. Have you thought of ripping the corner, removing the old carbon, rinsing the filter wool under water, and reusing it for mechanical filtration? Remember carbon starts to release the stuff it takes out of the water, after a short time. But the floss stays useful for a while after a few rinses Just a thought.
  17. I WANT A MOOSE! Anyone want to come hunting in Fiordland??? Huh???
  18. In part I think so with regards to fish. The fish are coming from different breeding houses, and a fair amount may still be wild caught specimens. So definitely a *possibility* at least. As for equal rights for a hobbyist keeping allowed animals versus someone who wishes to introduce an entirely new species/animal, well not really in the same ball park IMO. And I don't agree with the repeated statement: only keeping one bird so it can't breed, or only letting in a dozen birds. What? That is nonsensical with respects the topic of introducing an entirely new species IMHO. I'm bored with this argument now. It is not like our discussion is actually going to change each others point of view, or change the outcome of any applications. Lets go have a beer instead, my shout.
  19. But if you allow any exotic species in, that means it is available to *everyone*. Not everyone cares about protecting the native fauna. They will be released into the wild by some moron along the line. It is inevitable. Trying to bring something in saying you don't *intend* to release it is not a great defense at all IMO. Also if one is willing to spend tens of THOUSANDS of dollars for one bird then why don't you simply spend half of that, move across the ditch and have a menagerie of them legally.
  20. Good you noticed the filter floss was missing. Seeing it is purely for mechanical filtration you can take it out and rinse it regularly in the beginning. Maybe every 4 days until your water is really clear. You don't need to worry about the rest of the media when you rinse the floss.
  21. Oh can I help. We can add all those nasty flavourings from Gloria Jeans too tehehe The most tolerable beans I found in Auckland was from Sierra, their whole roasted beans.
  22. Well macro evolution is proposed to happen over many millennia. However micro evolution happens within generations. Adaptation. I disagree. People need to stand up and report any illegal black market trade in animals IMO. Regulation of a trade in illegal animals is an not a positive suggestion IMO. Things will happen whether you like it or no, so put regulations on it??? Honestly. That is saying that trading illegal animals and trading P are ok if the Govt. gets some tax, or some bureaucrats get to make a plan to have it distributed across the country equally. Are you for serious???
