nothing wrong with doing a water change, you certainly wont make it worse. ive always had a teaspoon of salt in my 3ft, it was something a friend told me about years ago and ive always done it without adverse side effects, i have had bottom feeders at the time too, this behaiviourisnt uncommon, though it depends how hes doing it, ie. if hes contacting the glass etc or swimmingl funny it might be a parasite, or it might be that as it settles it will drop this behaviour and explore the rest ofthe tank. the Tiger bard i had used to do similiar, though it was a happy healthy fish...

i never ever said in that thread that i wanted to see cops get killed, i never said that the jobthey did wasnt dangerous, only that they should be doing more work to stop thingssuch as this happening, instead of sitting at teh roadside, agreed that is part of thier job, but the incentive is all wrong, placing focus on petty things such as speeding (yes speed kills, but so do P fries and other detritus of society) rather then getting onto the society to make it a better place. given i did mouth off quite a bit, but who hasnt? i believe capital punishment works, rather then "life" imprisonment whereby our muderers and rapists get let off early for "good" behaviour. in Suadi Arabia, if you steal, you get your fingers cut off, you kill, you rape, you deal drugs, the punishment is similair. now, not saying NZ has to adopt this sort of extreme punishment, but, the laws here need to be beefed up. its like having a naughty kid, if one set of punishment doesnt work you move up to harsher and harsher punishment until the desired result is achieved. right now in NZ people are running rings around thecops through loopholes and soft laws. also cops need guns, and to be TRAINED to use them appropriately. Tasers should also become part of normal training. im genuinely sorry for this guy and his family, and i think its shocking that this has happened, but it highlights the move in criminal activity in NZ

problem comes where do you draw the line between a smack and child abuse.... personally when i was growing up at home i KNEW that if i misbehaved the consequence was often a shambok or dads jandal across my glutes, coupled with a time out and writing a apology letter to whoever was affected, though often nowadays living arts exemplar is the more practiced route of child discipline, with the effect of children learning how to get around mum and dad and run amok... (agreed not always, but you can see how it can happen) then again it only takes a slip of anger from someone to turn a smack into an assault, especially with young kids, and if daddy has had a few too many brewskies...

oh k so maybe i went a little OTT bagging them, but its my personal opinion, and ill stick to it, but i do think that there should be harsher laws and the cops should be able to do alot more to serious offenders, and not concentrate on making thier ticket quotas. serious crims are being let off so lightly over here, and small offences are being judged more harshly than neccesarry, wouldnt you agree? and the whole age thing is bollox, esp when i know that in South Africa (yees its not New Zealand, but its my example) Children are forced to become mercinaries for the point that they are outside the law. now that is extreme i agree, but if theyre committing a crime they have to have some sort of reprimand, otherwise theyll learn to get away with it.

no no no, well past that and coming back on the other side...

   grrrrrr... still dont like thier attitude when i went in there the other day, still no proper idea of what they are doing... honestly, what laws are there governing animal abuse in relation to fish? are there any at all?? sorry to go off topic, just irks me....

the problem with this country is its laws, and the way that they are set out, like barries case, someone dies and the punishment is a proverbial slap on the wrist, same with rapists and peadophiles, and the cops are slow to respond and when they do they are so liad back theyre almost vertical... and yet theyll sit on the road edge and pick off people doing 10ks over and repremand you and treat you like a criminal of the worst sort... in New Zealand, there is so little inteh way of serious crime happening, the cops are lazy, nothing better to do... and then wonder why everyone hates them... comming from South Africa where i was help up at gunpoint at 15 for my bike and my shirt, New Zealand cops are soft... just my opinion....

never heard or seen of them... sound cool though! (coming from someone that used to collect scorpions in S.A) lol

man this is wicked, i knew that the park couldnt just dissapear up in smoke, far too many people would miss it... as for the working bee, im at tech at the moment, and spare time is hard to come by, especially since ive got 3weeks left, and exams etc are looming... BUT! i will have to look into my schedule and ill post a possible set of dates for working bees, etc, though it will be alot easier when the area is saved for sure. the idea is to rip out all the invasive species and put a heap of native trees and shrubs in their place as well as install a walkway that winds through thte track dotted with informational stands. so far there is half a predator fence up, that will also need completing, but hopefully i can get in there sometime soon and try jack that up. ill come down to teh park after tech today mark and see how you want to organise things. digital thermometers are known to be in-accurate, well, from my experience, and thefact that you had to set teh heater to 30 screams to me that it may be the thermometer you have that is upsetting the balance. also how long did you wait before adding the fish?
