  1. whats really creepy is when a cop rocks up to your window, looks inside and says your first name before you even hand your licence over... though she was quite cute... but i never seen her before... lmao, weirded me out
  2. whos that sexy guy with the mohawk next to that hot as holden??? it was a great day indeed!! and we finally took out that tree inteh fernery! look mum! no chainsaws!
  3. i think you guys have done a fan-freaking-tastic job as it is, youve been a great support to the park already... all hail
  4. well i hope that working bees, sausage sizzles, and my project in the fernery will be able to draw more attention and funds to the park long term. also when mark gets his zoo licence and we get giraffe, zebra, primates etc should make it alot more profitable and more in the public gaze... but keep ideas rolling, after all, theres always something else to do to help...

    Fish dying

is there a sizeable amount of algae in the pond? just asking cos as im sure you know, but just in case.... algae respire like any other animal at night, using up O2 and creating CO2. thus at night in a body of water with a large amount of plants you can have fish literally choking and dying of asphixia. also you could look at adding a airstone or some sort of water movement thatll bring the detritus up from teh bottom, as in a large pond like that is could be that aerobic bacteria are sapping the depths of the pond of oxygen, and if that happens you get anaerobic bacteria taking over and producing sulphides that could kill the entire pond overnight if enough was generated. the air stone would just make sure that the aerobic bacteria keep going rather than the anaerobic. just a couple ideas that im pinching from my aquaculture papers...
  6. yer that works too, same as how in diving you spit into your mask, the small mount of starch repels the water and stops it misting up. as my instructor told me "the greener the cleaner!"
  7. no idea, but you can see all the black crap on the cut potatoe, i also thought what the hell granpa, until i did it... lol
  8. i couldnt get my side mirrors clean of that droppletty stuff, until my grandad recommended half a potatoe... just rub it al around untill it gets dirty then slice a little more off and keep going, then just wipe off the starch with a damp towel... worked a treat...
  9. i think this is one of those topics where people just have to agree to dis agree, i know where i stand, you know where you stand, simple as that. just when someone re-counts a life experience in future, lets all be bigger people and not bag it completely. umm... apparently they did... isnt that what i said? did i stutter? if you want to talk intentions, talk to an alien, i am meerly an observer, as are millions of other people around the world, including my family. read back in the post... pot calling the kettle black hmm?? cos some of your posts i have found somewhat offensive too...
  10. i shall pass no comment, i shall pass no comment.... haha nar gutted bro, well, if you wanted ill come down n get your sorry carcass but youd have to stay tyhe whole weekend and consume admirable amounts of golden nectar... though this does raise the point (as did lucid) of people ganging together to keep the old petroleum costs down... i dont mind going around locally to pick people up, and if i do pick up paul_r i can get people from edgecum, tepuke, matata, whakatane, ohope or even go as far as opotiki for the cause...
  11. indeed, i agree, and my extraordinary proof has been my own experience, i used to be a complete skeptic myself, until i saw this happen... as for mental illness and drug induced hallucination... ill leve those to other people. i know what i saw, and that is that. now you can either try and open your mind to the slightest possibility that it might be true, or you can make yourselves sleep better at night by occluding yourself and bagging out other people... your choice. but dont try insult my intelligence, if anything, its an isult to yourself that you cant accept any other theories other than those fed to you by media/ government/ society.
  12. prove us otherwise bro... were just keeping an open mind to other possibilities, rather than being over-run with media-led and government censored beliefs that everything in our world is hunky dory and nothing else exists...
  13. well weather may be a factor, but if it all falls apart on that front, ill be at treh park all week myself, and people are welcome to drop by and lend a hand. and im sure other dates can (and will) be organised in the future.
  14. http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/living ... 33930.html working bee!! lol
  15. ok look, i know what i saw, and whether it be aliens or a government thing, whatever, my whole family saw it, as well as another whole family living 2 houses down from us. i cant explain it, but dont bag me out for relaying an experience. we are all entitled to opinion and judgement based on our personal experiences, just sometimes that opinion and judgment should be reserved. something i recently learnt myself...
  16. hey everybody, well, everyone has been asking when the working bee is going to be happening, and im pleased to announce that Marks given me carte blanche to get it rolling, so... the Weekend of 4th/5th of october seems to be the best date I can think of, so, if you want to come on down and lend a hand, theres alot of stuff that we can sort through and get the park looking really neat again just in time for the 11th october which i believe is Marks Open day. if you want to, leave a message of support here or just pitch up on teh day, itll be great to meet some faces to put to names. thanks all
  17. another constructive post  indeed, how long isit going to be until one of the nuclear nations gets fed up with another and all of a suddden everyone launching nukes at everyone else and the planet ends up in a nuclear holocaust. i give it <50 years...
  18. the problem with pumice is that it can allowthe growth of heterotrophic bacteria in the millions of little holes that dont get oxygen or circulate (dead spaces), these are the bacteria that live in the sludge at the bottom of ponds etc that break up the detritus. the problem with them is that they generate sulphides, which , even in small amounts, is toxic to your fish. this can be seen often in densely populated ponds around the world, one day suddenly all the fish float to the top, poisoned. the other problem with dead spaces is that NH3, NH4, NO2, etc can build up, then leech into surrounding water via diffusion. now yes there are natural dead spaces in tanks etc, but my point is that you dont want to ADD more of them... just a consideration.
  19. AHAHAHAHA you made a funny! welcome to teh forums, theres a few of us out here, i miss the reptiles from home too, and the scorpions! lol
  20. *sigh* well,... it starts out a beautiful day in South Africa, lazy sunday afternoon, i go to my room for a nana nap withteh blue skies and the sun shining on my back... wake up to my father yelling " Chris, Go look outside!" as he runs to my parents room. i can hear his scrambling through the cupboards, amoungst growls of "where's the camera!". i notice a sort of eerie dimness has taken over the ble skies that i fell asleep in. i look at my watch, ive only been asleep 20 minutes. i walk outside and the skies have gone cloudy, but not like normal cloud, it seems thin, and has a strange orangish colour, and it seems to cover the sky in every direction. I walk over to my Mother and Brother and look up over the pepper tree at what they are pointing at. A big black cross, spinning in the sky, one way, then slowing and spinning the other way, slowing, them changing rotation again. it just sat there, hovering in the sky, like it was suspended on a string. then, in a streak of blue light, a second cross joins it, just above and to the right of the first, spinning in the same way, with the same timing. about now dad has given up teh search and is standing next to me. the two craft sit still them all of a sudden two more blue streaks flash across the sky and they were gone. 10 minutes later the strange clouds dissapear and the blue sky is exposed again with no trace of cloud in the sky.
  21. too long a story to write up, partially cos it easier to tell to people face to face, partially cos im too lazy, but my whole family have experienced a few sightings and other crazy stuff that cannot be explained logically basically weather control and spinning crosses in the sky could sum it up... lol
  22. when i was doing freshwater ecology we did some MCI scoring in some rivers around here, was really awesome to see the little insects that you never knew were there... dobsonfly larvae are tough though, we put them in jars of meths to "dispatch" them so we could look at them undr the microscope, and those toebiters take a good 15 mins to die in pure meths, while they still try biting into the other larvae in the jar... haha
  23. im too much ofa sook to give blood, i cant stand needles, after the amount of them i had in me when i went through the glass door i feel ive had my share... though at teh same time the principle is cool and i would like to give blood... just without needles...
  24. i dont need SETI, ive seen things with my own two eyes that tell me that we are definately not alone... it just a matter of time really till something conclusive comes up
  25. Were only glad we could help Mark Mark and Caroline are generous and deserving people, and hopefully il be able to get that fernery sorted out sooner rather then later. as for the working bee, ill "fly" over to marks today and see what teh "buzz" is on when he wants it done... then itll just be a matter of a date... as soon as said date is agreed one of us will post it up and we can organise what we need to do. Id also like to say thankyou to all those that made this weekends sausage sizzle etc happen, it was a great day for everyone, even if i nearly lost a finger to clarry a couple times
