FIRST METHOD: step 1: fill ice cream container with water, srep 2: put container outside somewhere and forget about it step 3: come back in week to 2 weeks maybe, and youll have little wriggling mozzie larvae in there step 4: remove some larvae and feed to angels or what have you step 5: enjoy the satisfaction of watching angels munch on free food SECOND METHOD: find some stagnant water, ie guttering, tarpaulins that have been left out, cow troughs, puddles, ditches, etc etc, and use a net to grab a heap of whatever is living there, almost guarentee that there will be something around your home that holds water and youve forgotten about and the mozzies would have found and started breeding from. and there is your easy step by step guide to your fishies free food, join us tommorow for tadpoles terrific tea.... lol

the main point of those sleeping mats is not "comfort" (soft luxouriousness) anyway, its to get your body off the ground so that you dont lose heat in the night through your sleeping bag and into the ground,(something bloody important that your thankfull for as soon as you dont have one and go on a weeks camping trip! >.<) and they can be comfortable if you dig out a "hip-pit" which is what it sounds like. as for being used under a tank, i htik it would verymuch depend on the tank and the expense, some of those sleeping rolls may be too soft and just compress to almost nothing. but again, its up to your own judgement...

Water changing method - experience and opinion please:D
Cricketman replied to henward's topic in Technical
i was gonna say, i thought that the water temp change would shock the fish! like when when you do the polar bear swim and cant breathe... i suppose that it would depend on how hardy your fish are to water temp changes... man ive been wasting time and money making sure the water temp was only bout a degree off before adding it to my tank... >.< o well, you live you learn.. -
>.< i knew that... really i did... obviously time to stop trawlng through posts and go to bed...
-
how would you measure salinity? like quantitively, or is it a "sucked-out-your-thumb" amount? are there tests you can buy etc?
-
ive seen 2 gouramis rip eachother to pieces before,(years ago back in SA, so dont know what species they were etc) mum bought them cos they were "pretty" >.< shows what happens when you dont research...
-

nar didnt clean out the filter, just took out everythink else and gave it a clean around, i have done this many times before and havent lost a single fish, i only wanted rid of the bloody snails, i left some of the substrate and the filter alone so that it would have the bacteria etc on it... i just found it funy that she started dropping at the most awkward time, the fry are all fine, there were only 6 of them, 2 got eaten by the angel b4 i put em all back in... i dunna, i feel guilty now... lol ah well, you live you learn

right well tonight i decided that my tank was filthy so i did a 100%clean of everything in it.Took fish out and put them into a cosy pot, cleaned it all out, removed grotesque number of snails, salt scrubed everything, etc etc... go back to put fish into tank, to discover my mollies have started birthing... YAY!!!!!!!!!!... followed by, OH NO... now where am i going to put em?? i only own one tank and one breeder net, i have 3 mollies (a white and 2 sailfins) and a sailfin father, also in the tank is a neon(yes they prefer groups, but this one has been with me from the start of my tank and seems perfectly happy) and a atlum angel. now i also havent got any java moss, since i have been working etc and pet shops in tauranga are useless, and to maybe get some i have to go to hewlits road, petrol in my car sucks, and here i am now with a bunch of mollies wanting to eat thier new borns and IDK WHAT TO DO..... please help, lol im going to try put the mother i think is birthing into a cut coke bottle bottom with holes for tonight, tomorrow could be interesting >.<

looks awesome man, so jelous about now, though give me a couple months and i might be similair lol though i dont get y ppl buy driftwood, i was told to get sum from the beach, then put in a bucket and change the water everyday 4 a week, or more dependin on the size... sorry if im wrong but student life, gotta try get the most bang... err, driftwood, for your buck...
-
i was actually thinkin of doin a similair thing, id be keen to see how yours turns out mate, keep us all posted lol, i had the thought that you could probably get the light fittings from a mitre 10 or similair and then all you would need to do is get the lights from somewhere. and put a peice of acrylic or summin to stop the water seeping in...

my GFs sister had a BN that i put into her tank for her, and that used to go awol for ages at a time, then one day we changed the water and it was completely gone, no body, nothing to say that it used to be there at all, no carpet jerky around the tank either, and it had a tight fitting lid.... go figure, cos i begin to wonder if the aliens abducted him... along wiv the sis and removing both thier brains and swapping them...
-
yer, i can see that, but what about just for "funny haha" value? i mean, why not interbreed, if you can make a completely new species of killie, would that not be good for the overalll diversity of the genus? ah well, im quite hapy mixing mollies atm, killies could be a next step, or neon tetras, i mean, what tropical tank doesnt have tetras of one kind or another?? "not many, if any", said scribe...
-
the easiest way that i got rid f white spot was to add a slight amount of salt along the front of the tank, cant memmy y it was along da front, but yer, it worked... just keep changing the water
-
really? like MAF trouble or it a social taboo to cross killies or what? lmao
