  1. i dont have any other pets (the crowd goes *AWWW*) and as for hobbies, other than the obvious, cricket, i class myself under jack of all trades master of none... i like cars, fishing, scuba diving (o wait, there im a master, and i got he litle PADI card to prove it ) i also do ballroom dancing, and attempt wood carving every now and then... ooo! and a guitarist, and according to the "pacific star pop star" kareoke contest that i got 2nd overall in on my cruise last week, i suppose im a vocalist too.... wow... no wonder my rooms a mess >.<
  2. oudtshoorn south africa, middle of summer average high temp = 50degrees, same day at night, -5 degrees... ok so it sits right on teh edge of the desert but hey! lol its crazy... though i find its not the heat that gets to me in NZ, but the humidity, at least in SA it was dry or nearly dry heat, that way when you sweated itd eveporate and not make puddles of muggy air around you till you feel like you cant breathe! YAAAAAAARG!!!!
  3. i thought light intensity was in lumens or lux, but that might be my mind making things up for me to believe.... :-?
  4. wait, so you actually do this on a regular basis?? grief... so glad im a guy.... a) even if it is filthy we often are beyond caring, and b) if it was too unbearable wed hold it or find a tree... lmao
  5. that the loaches making that noise or typing??? :-? thats gonna seem a dumb q init?
  6. firstly, from what i know, glass bending is a **** job to do unles your setup properly to do it, and to find a place set up theyll prob cost an arm and a leg, but Barrie might be of more help to you, hes a glazier by trade...
  7. yer man, wish i had done more aye... but you got freaking easy street brother!!!!!!! freaking lucky (insert list of bannable profanities here).... also funny thing is that i already have 2 diplomas from uni... in latin, yes, but they are still diplomas!!
  8. im doing, level 6 aquaculture 1&2, PADI assistant instructor and Instructor, as well as all my other 12 standard subjects... AND I CANT WAIT!!!!
  9. the problem with aquaculture is that if something does go wrong, even slightly, teh density of species within the system means that the changes will domino effect, and also, if something fatal like, say tank breaks or somehow gets poisoned etc, the cost of replacement would make it wayyyyyy out of reach for most people. thats why salmon farms etc get investors to cover those sort of costs etc. and it is a full on occupation, not just a hobby at that point.
  10. went past teh aquiarium, but didnt go in, went to teh pet shops and drooled at all the various fish they had, then walked out after seeing the state of some tanks and teh number of siamese fighters in wine glasses for sale. but overall a insightful trip, i have to say that cruising has got to be teh best way to see a country like that, you go in, get confused by all the french speaking people, take in the atmosphere, meet some people, do teh touristy things, then go back to the ship and "normal" way of life. it was fantastic! have to get the film developed and then scan teh pics in, so bear with me for now
  11. well you know where to go for a dive instructor aye (nudge nudge, wink wink) oh and CONGRATULATIONS!!
  12. all that would take is someone to forget its there and boot it and itll all be over... plus that amount of glass at a low level would seriously injure someone if they fell onto it, normal glass cofee tables are bad for it, buit that would cause some incredible damage / death.... I HATE GLASS
  13. well get this, i bought my girlfriends sister a small tank with a couple coldwater aclimatised danios, and a BN, few days later she came to me saying that the BN was missing, i went in and i picked up all the ornaments, knowing that they often hide inside them i also looked all around the inside and outside of them... nothing... pulled out plants etc leaving only the maybe 2-5mm of substrate she had... nothing removed fish, removed subststrate, still nothing, only conclusion... the suckerfish sucked a circle inthe acrylic tank, by sucking on the side and turning round in circles and cutting with his sharpened anal or caudal fin, then flipped over quickly puting himself on the outside and creating a perfect seal again using his heat vision then skipped off out teh window and down the lane.... (ie tank had a lid that seald tighter than the pope mobile, and only opening other than meshed over air holes in the very top of the lid, was a small sliding feeding hole)
  14. hey everybody, i have just got back from a 8 day cruise to New Caledonia!!! i have got to say that it was the most awesome trip of my life! white coral sand beaches and clear water lagoon with some awesome fish life! i saw everything from puffers to pipe fish to giant trevally to clownfish! ive got a load of photos that i took with my underwater camera that ill stick up here later. cant believe the number of posts that im going to attempt to read through >.< lol
  15. bjork's name even sounds like spew... much like her music >.< no dis-respect to bjork fans...
  16. yer, i know, i did do ncea, i just didnt like it, lol, i found it confusing coming over from South Africa...
  17. the other problem is the idea of pass/fail, whereas if it were %, you might get 48% (50% passmark per-say) whereas in NCEA youd just get a NA, could be, and was depressing... compared to Knowing that you nearly got there
  18. ncea is a shambles, lol! and bursary wasnt much better... i missed getting my % marks for tests etc and trying to out-do my classmates, now its all down to 4 letters, wheres the challenge in that??? anywho just my thoughts...
  19. well im going to be the oddball and say that i love carbon, it clears the water really well, maybe it my imagination, but never heard anything before but praise for activated carbon..
  20. i unpack fruit and veges out of boxes for box packers to eat
  21. probably a hatching or something? i second the lynx+lighter idea, we used that to get rid of a wasp nest once at my old flat... highly entertaining stuff, except when you realise that theyre still comming out of the hole and you run out of lynx... >.
  22. wow, i htought id never find a thread that i didnt understand, past teh first post i got completely lost, lmao
  23. if you mean by adapt that we rape and pillage the environments around us changing them forever so as to suit our needs, then youd be correct... but, on our own, without houses or airconditioners or heaters or electricity, we are a pretty crap species... like the conversation i had with living art the other day, if ferrets or weasels were abit bigger, the human race would have died out ages ago
