  1. $2000 is a really good camera Im looking at getting a Canon 400d on the recomendations of a guy that knows his stuff and from results Ive seen . There is a example of some macro photos in the freshwater section (I think) I saw a 400d today at Noel Leming for $1399 so theres still enough left over from your budget for extra lens or for shoe shopping
  2. what sort of dollars are you looking at I normally get Canons
  3. a 70 mm off cut is way too small to snap. I have over 40 years experiance and I doupt that I could snap an offcut that small of. You can start running the cut from either end but possibly a slight bit better from the end rather than the start We often run cuts of say 10mm wide over the lenght of a stock sheet (2440) long
  4. 1st step is to make one cut from one end to the other with no "misses" in the cut. Before cutting make sure the area is clean and not cold... warming makes the cut run better as well (How much are you trying to cut off) you will probably need at least 50 mm off cut Dont start the cut from over the edge but start from 1 mm in from the edge but continue the cut off the edge at the finish(did that make sence?) Dip the cutter into light machine oil and make sure the wheel is turning freely. When the cut has been made, if the off cut is from say 50mm to 150mm put the end of the cutter under the cut and press down evenly on both sides untill the cut is complete, if the offcut is bigger than 150 either snapping over the edge of a table or over a straight edge is safer
  5. Ahh the 400d is the one Im going to get If you think about a photo tank, get in touch as I may be ably to help (Im a glass merchant) You should use low ion glass as that is dead clear instead of the blue green of normal glass. I dont know that it would make all that much of a difference but my suppliers have given me some.
  6. and lens? Have you ever used a photo tank?
  7. Boy Now thats polishing your apple
  8. Cam I feed even my adult Killis the left over BBS...
  9. I use 3 1.5 leter coke bottles with another warming... that means that every time I use BBS its 36hours since I put the eggs into it. In other words, say this morning I put eggs into bottle 1 tonight I put eggs into bottle 2 tomorrow morning I put eggs into bottle 3 tomorrow night I use bottle 1 and put eggs into bottle 4. After straining the BBS from bottle 1 I refill with sea water and allow the water to warm up. At the next feed, I put eggs into bottle 1 and use bottle 2... sounds complicated but its really easy. If anyones interested, feel free to come around and have a look
  10. I fail to understand why (if you have a few tanks and breed a few fish, hatching BBS is such a hassle. To me the system works well and is easy. I feed BBS twice a day. I can appreciate that the feeder system could be very good as its feeding the fry 24/7 but fry grow best if regular water changes and regular feedings happen. I clean my fry and feed them twice a day. Yes, it takes a little time but I do it in the morning before the family gets up and again while shortland street is on... I simply want to look after and do the work that comes with breeding fish
  11. Imsweet It may not catch as I got a bit lazy at about the time those were spawned and didnt boil the peat... The jiffy pots contain some nasties (fertiliser etc) and unless boiled, it poisons the eggs. Interestingly enough though, with eggs from mop spawners that I place for 2 or 3 weeks on the surface, I dont have problems with. Im flat out spawning the fish at the moment so I will send you some more in the next 3 weeks Could you send me you address again please (PM)
  12. it should be fine age dependant
  13. They sound OK I was wondering if they were still alive, thats why I was asking about movement Keep them cool... not cold ... cool Mine are in the garage with my tanks with a night time temp of about 15
  14. If you look really closely, can you see the worms moving? remember that they are very very small?
  15. you did place the worms on the surface? If you did, you should be able to just see them wriggling on the surface They will slowly spread to the side then start climbing up the plastic on the sides
  16. thanks for that Its on the dark side then Only been around there in a boat Is gemstone bay part of the reserve?
  17. Hi Paul What is the reasoning behind registering the breeding please?
  18. use a bear bottom tank as it makes a quick syphon each day really easy Float the very small fry in a plastic container as it makes it easier not to syphon the small ones up untill they are big enough to be easily seen
  19. Im not familar with Gemstone bay so if you remember where it is, let me know please?
  20. Im sometimes a bit slower at answering email (work) as often their is a lot of reserch needed. When you answer a query, as its in writing, you must be 100% corect and that means reserch. Txts, I only turn my cell phone on during work hours so after hours txts WONT be answered untill the next work day
  21. weatbix... real easy as all systems are PM me your email and I will send you a email with everything I do (from Alan Wakelin)
  22. "i have a pet vegetable so i don't eat vegetables" Love it I do not have any pet beer or wine so I drink them
  23. Slappers, you have to realise that Thecounch is from a different country and they use different language. Either is correct but Dwangs are what those in the cold south call Noggins. They also refer to bachs as cribs... a funny lot down that way arnt they
  24. I once had a person that was txting me every monday or friday saying he was too sick to come to work... all my guys were at work and I didnt know the number. After a few weeks of his being sick and me txting back telling him he had the wrong number, I gave up and told him he was fired... wonder who he was?
