I agree with them not being new but the figures I mentioned were the figures that the members of the NZKA submitted... Are you a member? and if so, I take it that you have just bred these in the last month or two? I have also bred quite a few over the last couple of months. If your not a member could you do me a favour and PM me (or email) me a list of what you have as you may (hopefully) have a few specie that we have not Thanks
  3. just to make it clear as well Our dehumidifier is an aircon unit that when set on auto, dehumidifies if needed

    Fast growing fish

just a bit harder to keep healthy for a person just starting on breeding. I know they only really need salt but simpler with mop spawners I think

    Fast growing fish

great words of wisdom there Caserole Killis... not all that fast at growing but interesting to gather eggs wait for fry then grow them on
  9. correct Alan and you need to be a member of the club
  10. RTV was probably the first brand of Silicone here in NZ that was used fro glass. I used to glazing the Vindex boats in RTV... thats what made them stable. Before the glass was RTVed in, the cabins would move about all over the place
  11. if its closer to summer, I can send you some eggs down but I think they will freeze for the next few months
  12. Dixon I suggest you get some nothos and breed them a few times In not sure if there are any Notho breeders down your way although Im putting the presure on Alan Wise decision though and I congratulate you on it
  13. way out west mate I dont even know what a sheep looks like but cows have purdy eyes
  14. carefull Alan Dont go there You line in Christchurch dont you
  15. 1/2waysgood Try listening to a bit of Rick Wakeman. I saw the Animals play years ago. Marmalade was good as well. I tend to close all the computer room doors and play the Wakeman DVDs every now and then but as its Prog Rock, the rest of my family arnt so keen so I dont push my luck
  16. with Anual Killis (Nothobranchius) There enviroment drys up every year so they are all closely related. In Korea and experiment was done useing raceing pigeons and breeding mother to son, then the female from that mating to its father and so on. After about 12 (or 24 I cant remember) generations, there was a marked increase in problems with any deformations (Physical and mental) showing for the next few generations but by selective breeding, these were culled out and sameness became the norm. No racing stars or good looking birds just sameness. In fish (being non preforming) it may not be a problem and in fact may be an advantage but where preformance is needed, its to be done with careful consideration. By crossing 2 line bred families, you can often get increased preformance through hybred vigour but you would never breed from them.
  17. if its 40mm thick (and I have never seen glass that thick) the weight would be 1116kgs Make sure you have your weatbix in the morning wont you
  18. it weighs 334kgs if its in 12mm glass It is toughened isnt it
  19. another feature that I use on my camera (a cheap canon but it had an underwater housing available) is a machine gun action. My camera can take shots at about 3 every 2 seconds and that can be a great help (keep in mind that my wife does dove releases at weddings so I can take action shots or the Bride and Groome releaseing the doves) The SLR cameras (more expensive ones) can take 5 times the amount of photos in the same time. Why would you want that feature? easy, your kids play and you can get a chance of that photo of a lifetime by say using a machine gun action shot (or shots) of them running, jumping, falling, swimming rather than a posed false smiling photo.
  20. call in to your local glass comp (a small one) and they will often show you if you happen to need some glass. If you dont want glass, they may not bother as the time the guy spends in showing you is costing his company Alan is correct, the only reason that the cheaper cutters have problems is that people dont oil them, the more expensive cutters have a handle that holds oil and thats the reason they are called self oiling cutters. The quality of the cutter wheel is exactly the same. My experiance is that people dont clean them and when next they need to make a cut, the cutter is jammed up and seized but as mentioned, you pays your money......
  21. http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/macro- ... 30787.html Got to love the macro shots eh
  22. In my company we never use them as they get damaged just as easily and the Diamantors we sell at about $4. I agree that for those that are less experianced, there may be a small advantage but we just never use them. The self oiling Toyo cutters are normally $35 from memory.
  23. easy to cut mate My only question would be why 300 x 300? I made a couple for a friend a few months back and made them 300 high but only about 100 wide and 50 deep. The idea was to keep the fish in a more confined area making photos easier to set up... keep in mind that I keep Killis Hardest thing is that you cant clean the inside silicone off so when photographing that has to be considered
  24. http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/fish-p ... 31191.html Have a look at these plus theres a guy from Germany that takes the BEST macro photos I have ever seen, hes post them on the Ozzie Killi site and the Dallas killi site. If your interested in that type of thing, it would pay to have a look
