  1. gee, I was walking around up here in shorts and a t shirt, is it winter down there?
  2. well I dropped in to see them today and had a talk with them, it sounds like one beardie came in looking worse for wear and then was picked on by dominant beardie, they have had it in the bluey enclosure while fattening it up and medicating, since last visit it seems to be a bit better and colour is good, just a sore eye. These guys are pretty devastated by what is being said on the forum and I personally think facts have been blurred, the set ups look fine and sounds like they are going to go bigger for the beardies which will be good. I am all for name and shame when it is appropriate, but in this case I think it has gone overboard without all the facts. Just my personal thoughts on this.
  3. while under the water in the pond you can check out how the red ears are sleeping
  4. good on ya, i'll be there come on guys and girls if things aren't voiced soon, we may find it is to late to act when things start getting carried away!

    10990 I hate mathes
  6. I dropped in the other day and had a look, sometimes they do get slightly mutated beardies but usually price is lower, proberbly more a breeder fault. I must admit the current beardies aren't looking that flash - worse than a couple of weeks ago when I saw them when first arrived. in saying that I also visited a large chain pet store today and found their setups even worse, hardly any lighting and smaller enclosures. I think it is the norm unfortunitely with pet shops and reptiles, just try to find a correct turtle set up at a pet shop.
  7. that temperature is around max for basking, you need a graduation of heat in the enclosure so your dragon can self regulate, you need to remember these dragons originate from inland australia, it can get very cold over night in the wild. they use the sun to heat up, but you won't see many basking when the sun is at it's hottest. buy the bearded dragon manual, its a good reference book from experts that have breed thousands of dragons. I have kept my lizards on sand all their lives with no problems, I think everybody has their own ideas on substrate type.
  8. MYSTIC, HOW MANY SET UPS DO YOU HAVE!!!!
  9. first tank was a 3foot I think with community fish about 25 years ago, swapped it for a 4ft, swapped that for a 5ft then got out of fish in my late teens; now collecting big tanks again  my dad came over last year for dinner and was admiring some snake neck turtles swimming around then realised the tank was an old 4ft that he was wondering how he had "lost" a couple of years ago, its around 25 years old and still going strong!
  10. yes it was nice meeting you all, Navarre, hope all your fishes are ok, thanks for picking me up and showing me around and all your help, made for an enjoyable day :bounce:
  11. I didn't realise we have so many "wild exotics" running around in Auckland, does anyone know where you go to see the "wild types" of these species? Or is it that keepers are letting them out at night to wreck havoc on the native fauna, maybe thats what is happening, in that case I can see their point. Maybe a few of us in Auckland and Rodney districts need to get together to discuss and put foward a group proposal, it's easy to loose a few single proposals, any thoughts guys and girls?
  12. all good, went through xray and they asked if I had been fishing! came back with turtles and they didnt bat an eyelid a lot of worry for nothing
  13. aren't "they" the experts  don't need any advice when you know everything already! YEAH RIGHT
  14. lol, just got a wee bit nervous as the company i'm flying with didnt seem to have a straight anwser on what I could do, seems like there should be no probs by what your all saying, thanks
  15. yep, where i'm going they do, I have rang airline and got conflicting reports, have been told they usually check it and allow it through, just haven't done it before.
  16. Has anyone taken fish in their carry on luggage on airplanes lately? bit worried I might get stopped
  17. sorry to hear of your loss nava rre
  18. uvb wont go through the glass in any great amount, need open air basking spot through mesh. Awesome looking enclosure
  19. nice, what are you going to cover the top with, sun uvb? will they have somewhere to bask other than through the glass?
  20. nana luke, not sure if you have turtles, if you do with just a uvb bulb then try putting a heat lamp over the basking spot, 100w spotlight is all good for cheap heat, you would see the difference in how long they bask straight away!
  21. You put a basking site without a basking lamp and you won't get heaps of basking, with a heat source heaps of basking with legs out stretched, when I have heat lamps on even my 1 year old snake necks clamber over each other for the best spot for heat!
  22. henward, you ring local Doc office not Maf, you send a cheque in and they will come and check out your enclosure, then if ok a couple of days later they will send out a permit.
