  1. I just saw an ad for Butterfly creek saying they now have baby aliigators and tarantulas, I wasn't aware of any babies being born or brought in to Nz. Anyone been there yet and seen them?
  2. Fair enough, I just mentioned it was a talking point on the forum and that we were looking at taking it further, that is when he told me it was already through, I wasn't given the impression it was a secret and during the chat mentioned that there will be some happy herpers out there. As for dollar value and getting ripped off, i'm sure if these tortoises were stolen and were offered for sale the details would be given to the police and the tortoises given back. It seems that there are a few that think it is ok to just take reptiles that they want, if these people are turned in when found out it may help stop reptiles and reptile keeping being so secretive, I can't believe how stupid people are to steal from the one place that we all have to go to see these reptiles, just for financial gain or to "swap" for other illegal herps.
  3. that would have come out anyway as it was pushed through, I don't think Auckland Zoo would swap with private keepers at this point as it sounds like they have a policy now of only swapping with other containment facilities, still good news anyways, varanophile, if you knew about this already what did you have to gain not mentioning anything about it?
  4. talked to Ivan up at Ti Point today, he said that the Leopard Tortoises were already permitted for private ownership as someone has already had it put through, the only problem is getting the zoos to pass them on to private keepers.
  5. pity you aren't up north more, just found this on the site http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pe ... 671598.htm If not allowed to put link in sorry Saw another as well almost the same as the one on MFK but unfortunitely it too is up in the North island. Just look up large in f/tanks
  6. I am going up to visit him next week, I will have a chat when I am up there and see what he thinks
  7. congratulations, the start of another great collection!!
  8. years ago I used to chuck all my cichlids in our pond over summer, Jewels, oscars etc, pulled them out at the end of every feb nice and fat and colourful, never lost any, they fed up on the goldfish fry etc. Didn't try to breed any but they probably would have considering the condition they were in.
  9. So I was wondering what is happening with Blue tongue lizards in Auckland, I thought the regional council had or are banning the sale of them but there seems to be more for sale all the time in the region, does anyone know what is the actual status for them or was the ban news just a storm in a tea cup?
  10. stone and waterworld in Ellerslie has heaps of stuff in crates out the back.
  11. I have looked at heaps of different set ups and the one David R talks about that Greg makes has been the best value for money I have come across.
  12. yeah sorry, just been working on a native submission, got me a bit hot under the collar  someone needs to talk to Ivan at ti Point, see what his view on release into public hands is since he has so many.
  13. if they want to scrap what they have now for natives " endangered" , because of to much work being involved why would they set something up now for exotics, it is much easier for them to just say no than put in a system. Don't get me wrong, I am all for a full native and exotic permitted open system but after reseaching the crap out of it I just can't see the people with the ultimate say doing anything right, they haven't even bothered asking the Nz herp Society for it's input into the lastest probable stuff up, gee why ask the people that it effects most!!
  14. This would be great, but considering the powers that be are looking at opening up certain native species for what will end up open slather with no controls and i'm sure a lot of wild collecting and keeping by inexperienced keepers, why would they want to set up another register for exotics!! Sorry for being synical
  15. I would have thought that a simple test of the male leopard tortoise would sort this out, they are not a new organism as per your letter, so then it should come down to simply if they will allow the ones from the zoo to go into private hands.
  16. I just had a read of the website, couldn't find anything abo0ut what you do when they are here already.
  17. so you finally decided to join up, be careful you may become addicted!! hope you can help others on here like you have helped me
  18. http://www.nzfrogs.org/NZ+Frogs/Introduced+frogs.html this has some info on the whites inroduction into Nz would be awesome if a population was found here as there is documentation to them being here for many years so should be the same as the other Aussie frogs we can keep.

  20. might have to drive by and see if it is still there.
  21. lol, I grew up in Avondale, we had a big family of them living in our carport, very nice spiders, at the local atheletics club we were called the Avondale spiders and had a big picture on our shirts, the local bar was called the spiders bar and there was even a big spider model in the middle of town, I think it might all be gone now. we thought it was all cool when we were kids! 8)
