  1. I use outdoor carpet, that way it is easy to hose down when it comes to cleaning. I use carpet in my beardies with half covered in sand - so it looks natural enough and don't feed on the sand if you go that way. I kept blue tongues for quite a while, I guess the outdor carpet would be safer - you can buy from any of hardware companies and if you get the right colour it will look as natural as can be. Good luck
  2. Thanks for the reply everyone - I just hope their will not be a problem with impaction!
  3. I have heard pumice sand is a good substrate for bearded dragon tanks when they are older and just wondering if anyone knows about it and where to puchase in nz? Thanks
  4. Thanks for the replies and advice guys. Will watch the huhus, a pity it doesn't enjoy the fruit and veges but at 10 months I guess it still might in due course!
  5. Here it is guys - not sure you will see what you are looking for but help would be appreciated. Have just fed it some huhus which it loves immensely!
  6. Approx. 10 months of age. Will post photo later. Has not been with another dragon. I love it to bits but it is like a spoilt child. Jam
  7. I need some help please... my dragon is going nuts, throwing himself at the tank to get out. Not eating a huge amount. He is about 10 mnths old. When I let him out he is fine - just like a spoilt child - he rushes around the place exploring and jumps on the sofa to look out the window. Any help with behaviour or eating would be appreciated before I join him and too go nuts. By the way the tank is 5ft if your wondering! :bounce:
  8. Thanks guys for the response. In answer to the questions Day temp for winter is currently 32 degrees, night time is 22-23 degrees. Sand is half of the tank and other half is artificial grass carpet. The lights and reptile bulb (fluro) is on from 7-6pm - prob. 6 months old. We also have a 250 watt basking bulb. A ceramic bulb is also on constantly. Other nights he has climbed up his branch to sleep in the warmer part of the tank. I don't know whether to disturb him or not He does not appear to be ingesting alot of sand. Nothing in the poops. He gives it the odd lick but that is all and we do not feed him on the sand. Should I bother to drop the temps during winter or not bother. I was just trying to mimick the wild. I understand they do not brumate/hibernate at such a young age - is this the case?
  9. I have a 5 month old beardie who is not eating alot. Trying to dig in the sand which has just been put in there. Has taken to hiding amonst the drift wood at the cool end of the tank and seems to want to stay there. When I picked him out the other day he was cold to the touch and normally he would be up and about at that time of the morning. He seemed lethargic for a bit. He came right but now he has gone and hidden away again, any suggestions please. The tank is heated to around 31/32 degrees during the day at present, more in the summer. Do you think this is too cool for him?
  10. Critter Kingdom on Stanmore Road have two blue tongues (in together) and one bearded dragon baby - not sure of the prices. Jam
  11. Many thanks for that - at what age do they start to shed and will this affect the eating - have kept blue tongues but not sure about these guys!
  12. Have a baby dragon - not eating well - having trouble getting live food and won't eat the baby dragon pellets. Any suggestions please. Feeding flies at present and I know not ideal but it either lives or dies. I thought these guys were eating machines ... Have tried with some greens and fruit but not interested. Help please!!!
  13. I kept blue tongues for a couple of years and used immitation grass - the sandy one which I could just hose down when I needed to clean them out or I have used aspen shavings - not harmf ul like pine to them - a bit messier and from Animates hughly expensive. Jam
  14. Thanks for that - any other place other than Payless as I have tried them. Jam
  15. Hi wondered if anyone will help - I need to know where I can buy a plastic tank from for a beardie whilst I go on holiday - needs to be high enough so I can install the lights etc. This is just a temporary home but I need it to be approx. 3 foot. Any suggestions. Jam
