  1. I like slow cooked things...as I am often heard saying ...somethings are better done slowly....  Like mutton birds or.... pork bellies or.... lamb shanks or... mutton birds ( but not fresh ones you just roast those) or... Pigon pie (best to do a clay bake with those tho cause otherwise the feathers get in EVERYTHING)...or.... weka...or.... Venison casserole HMMMMMMMMM
  2. Because by not getting the iodine I will develop a lovely big goitre to attract all the girls. Bwahhh hahhh hhhhaaaa That means I wont need to be kissed by a prince sweetpea
  3. LOl thanks Bilbo. Thats interesting as some naturalist suggest we eat kelp to supliment the iodine we need...lol...I think..might have to look that up again. Anyway thanks for clearing that up Navarre
  4. I have a bell radar detector has more than recouped its price but then I was averaging 60 k a year rules with them are never be at front of line always never be faster than you can slow down and always have it on highway...lol navarre
  5. Hi Bilbo, where does the iodine make a difference...It is a natural antimicrobial after all. But like silver and golds should not be used where kidnet disease is present. Do you know if it works on fish the same way? Navarre
  6. I have some buckets with lids and use those and chiliy bins to move fish....you are welcome to borrow them if you wish. I have always tried to take as much water with me as possible for no other reason than to try and keep chemistry as stable as possible but its not that big a deal. At this time of year it is more about heat I would think than an extra large water change. And it is not advised to use hot tap water tobring up to temp due to leachates Some people have used various containers such as you buy at the warewhare but be warned in my experience just casue it says it stores a volume doesnt mean it holds that volume when lifted...lol HTH Navarre
  7. Monitors where here and held by a number ...eh ehmmm ...but those that are not in containment facilities are no longer allowed. Containment facilities are not allowed to bring in new stock. Bit like shinglebacks, leopards (either sort), Day Geckos et al As previously stated at one time you could hold which ever you wanted. what is truely here and what is "allowed" shall alwasy be two different reallities due to a number of factors. For Better Or for Worse it is a diapointment you are going V Navarre
  8. Hi There. Nice pics. Just a couple of things if you dont mind If you tilt your heater it will give it a larger working surface and make it mor efficient...or so I am led to belieave. Also if you take teh temp gauge prope to teh other end of teh tank it will be a more accurate guide to overall temp of tank as it is away from not only the tank heater but also your oil colum heater. Did you get the furnishings of the hoki beach? Navarre

  10. Ahhh Caryl, You dissapoint me waht with your skill and that big pond and that lovely tank in the lounge...just get another tank...lol You know you can fall ino the world we know as MTS. Look at it this way Buddie would have 2 places to land and Grant could sit between the 2? Navarre
  11. Hi There, I do things a little different to Caryl. I simply vax the top of the gravel holding the hose about half to a cm above the gravel. that way the mulm that is in the gravel stays there and feeds my plants yet and big "chunks" of waste are removed. Also when putting water back in I make sure it doesnt disturb the gravel to much other wise it kicks up all sorts of muck. Finally it does depend on filtration and types of plants. Some can handle being disturbed and others cant. I have seen superb plant tanks that get water changes up to the eyeballs and some that never get them so it is all a matter of choice depending on the type of plant and the set up of your tank. I have a tank that I do about 3-4 water changes a year on...it is heavily planted and lightly stocked and has no filter. I have a bigger tank which is also heavily planted but due to it having several flat expensive round fish I water change it weekly at least an it has a big filter running on it HTH Navarre

  13. Easy as with baby discus plant up your tank. add algae eaters and base fish next take second tank add baby discus to this (add water first of course) then feed every hour on the hour and do 50 % water changes every day if they are needed or not. once discus are grown (in about 2 years) then place in plant tank Take photo remove discus and have photo enlarged to size of tank look at foto whilst weeding tank and feeding discus. 23. Paul if you are going to do that then try jewels as they are better looking fish spawn more regularly and harder to get rid of...lol Or guppies but they would do better with substrate. Work either way So might as well make it an enjoyable tank?

  25. I have a 2 ft tank in my office I have it moderately planted with stem plants and crypts. It has a few guppies as dithers and a pair of dwarfs. I have at home a few 2 fters set up in a simular fashion If you didnt want to keep dwarfs you could look at a rocky biotype with Jullies or brichardi or luelupi but 2 ft would be pushing it a bit unless creatively aquascaped. especially if you didnt get the gender ratio right. But I have done all these things in the past so know it works. I would steer clear or the big cichlids anything like Mumba, haps , peacocks etc and look more at Kribs, Nannos, Apistos, and the above. These are also more easily replaced if something should go wrong HTH Navarre
