  1. I also should have added that for budding photographers, or writers, publishing in the Aquarium World means you get your photos seen internationally!
  2. Hi Fi5hguy - all natives! If you can assist in any way we will welcome it.
  3. Until last October, when we moved house, we were on a backup generator. Now if the power goes out I will run a heavy duty extension cord to my neighbours house as they are on a backup generator and we are not! We have one gas heater that runs without requiring power as well.
  4. You will have to pump away until all the air is out and it is full of water, thats the priming pump, or you will have to do as suggested and suck until the flow starts. My sunsun is older and the pump sticks now so sucking is the way I have to go.
  5. I am looking for high quality, clear, high resolution images of native fish to compile profiles of the natives in NZ for the website. If anyone has any of these that they are willing to send to me [email protected] I would be most grateful. They also must not have watermarks on them. Full attribution will be given to the photographer. Please give me your fishroom and your real name when you submit them (and also please give me the name of the fish If anyone is also willing to compile some basic profiles on the fish I would also love to know about it. This is a great chance to increase the profile of native fish!!
  6. Maybe it didn't make it worse, maybe you woke up to a much clearer version of the tank than you would have if you have not added it. I would perhaps add charcoal and then do nothing for up to a week except perhaps a couple of small water changes. If it keeps getting worse then you will know something is feeding it.
  7. How long have you had the driftwood in the tank? It may be leaching its tannins which would account for the colour in your water - (looks like any variation of a cup of tea without milk). Thats what I think it most probably is. If so the carbon will help, the purigen will most probably remove most of it but it can continue to leach for months. Fish will be happy, you won't like the look! Unfortunately I can't look at your links, having exceeded my households bandwidth for the month , downloading fish pics I think  I have increased my limit but it wont be available until after midnight tonight.
  8. Do you have driftwood in the tank or is just the substrates and pebbles? What is the substrate? Purigen will clear the water and although it is a moderate sort of price you can re charge it for repeated use. There are also Chem Zorb pouches but I haven't used those and do not know if they can be re charged. However, you really need to know what is causing it. Have you done any tests on the tank? What are you using to feed your filter now it is on the new tank?
  9. Do you have test kits to test the water or do you have a shop that you could take a water sample in to to be tested? A white slick on the surface suggests not enough water movement but something is fueling the slick. Possibly too much waste food. It normally takes between 7-21 days for a tank to cycle and a tank your size with those fish in should take longer than 7 days however fish coming up denotes a lack of oxygen in the water caused normally by ammonia or nitrites. This damages their gills and sometimes the damage is permanent.

  11. JBL balls in packs of 7 can be purchased from most LFS.
  12. You cant select a committee without an AGM so therefore although there are people who have said they will fill the positions they have to be voted in. Also each club has to hold an AGM (supposed to be before conference).

Hi Binu It might be better to put this under 'technical' but I believe cylinders have to be tested and certified as to their safety before they can be filled. As far as regulators go you get what you pay for as far as reliability so if you buy cheap it may not last. You will also need to decide if you want a solenoid within the regulator, as an add on or you have the option of not having one at all.
  14. You are a paid member atm. All capitations are due by mid July! If not paid by then it will probably be November before members exclusive rights are resumed.
  15. No need to apologise - it is always better to ask if you are not sure. Even the experienced on the fishroom often ask as sometimes people have tried and tested different things or have had experiences, which work just as well or better.
  16. Does anyone have some really clear, high resolution, non water marked images of their ponds that they would be willing to send to me for an Aquarium World article that I wish to write. The ponds can be any size, and taken at any time of the year. While I would like to see the 'lovely' sparkling clean ponds I also would like to see 'dirty' ponds as in ponds at the end of winter before the spring clean up. Pictures also of your filtration systems would be welcome. If you have any photos please would you send them to [email protected] along with the name you want to appear as the photo credit. Thanks Adrienne
  17. yes, normally when the young are kicked out of the cave they will spawn again.
  18. Wish I did have some ideas - from other forums it is a common issue and most suggest to cut off the brown/dead leaves.
  19. For the first time ever the other week I noticed one of my GBA sitting inside the outlet when the filter was off. However when it was turned on the fish was fired back in to the tank. I am still really surprised your clown loaches went up that high in the tank to investigate the 'cave'. Did you have the split outlet on - the one that allows the water flow in two directions? As far as Hagen goes maybe it is a lost in translation thing and they didn't really understand your comment or they just used a standard answer. However either way I would have expected them to check and a better response.
  20. What you do is get something like java moss and tie it to the rock with cotton or some people use mesh and put the moss under it. It will eventually attach to the rocks. http://www.aquamoss.net/Articles/MossLog.htm
  21. I'm not saying it is a parasite but it is a possibility. Often parasites are present in the water or on fish in small numbers and if the fish, for whatever reason, becomes stressed or weak they then attach themselves. Its not normal for fish to clamp their fins and rapid breathing can also indicate a parasite which may also be on the gills. Have you tested your pH, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate? Generally if ammonia or nitrite is present the fish will come up for air or hang near the top of the tank more often as the concentration of oxygen is higher. Also what is temperature of your tank and what are the tank mates?
  22. white spot? Check him very carefully as clown are prone to it or could be external parasite if the fins are clamped.
  23. My pristellas look great - I only have 6 but they have coloured up really well. Look way better in the tank than in the shop. I also have rosy tetra and one white tipped ornate tetra, the ornate are really active in their own group.
