  1. tis alright Sophia - I will go buy it. Considering I need to borrow a car with a tow bar and a trailer and some muscle to help I don't think I will be off in the middle of the night gathering it. I only need about 300 litres worth.
  2. No need to go to HFF, Albany. I only have one tank these days
  3. Where is a good place to go to get garden soil in Auckland, the closer in to the city the better. Not after topsoil, just decent garden soil for the raised vege garden we are putting up this weekend. We means he, and I will watch and provide the cold drinks I have googled but haven't had the most success.
  4. If they are going white then they have not been fertilised. Are you sure you have a male and female in there and not two females?
  5. I would expect the tetra to become a tasty snack!
  6. Are they the only fish you have in there?

    kh dropping

Why are you wanting to change your kH? Generally, if your kH is dropping then something is absorbing it. Have you read this? http://www.fishlore.com/fishforum/ph/11 ... riums.html

What do you have in your tank in the way of substrate, decorations, plants. What are you adding already to buffer it - What does it come out of the tap at?

  15. I used to go to Barnes Plastics in Penrose and buy the boxes suitable for holding 6 cans and the next size up. Not sure if there is any where in ChCh like that - google wasn't particularly helpful this time  Edit here you go its an 03 area code so might be chch http://www.longplastics.co.nz/longplastics.pdf or this one http://www.plastic.co.nz/contact-us.html I found there was a minimum spend but buying in 10's is not that bad.
  16. If they are imports then yes they have been in quarantine before the shop buys them, if NZ bred then no. Every time a fish is shipped or changes tanks they risk stress and a possible reduction in immunity. I guess it depends on the value of the fish you are buying and the value of the fish in the tank the new one is going in to. IMO you can generally tell by the look of the fish in the shop with the exception, I believe, of guppies.

    shiping fish

Yes it is possible to have them as carry on luggage. What airline as some airlines are a bit more difficult than others?
  18. Lining cardboard boxes with properly fitted poly does a great job. I used to cut the ends at one height and the sides at a slight different height and slot the base and lid in then tape it.
  19. By flushing them, it is a longer much painful death than a quick blow. It has been known for fish to be found still alive in the sewage collection ponds. Ick!!
  20. Please do not flush fish - kill them first and then put them in a plastic bag in a bin.
  21. Fi5hguy you may be correct. As I said I don't think its a disease.
  22. No, its definitely not velvet Alan. The best way I can describe it is like a fine layer of skin in a small area has lost its colour and is just a dull very very light grey. Or a small patch has just maybe lifted up slightly. I tried furan which in some cases seemed to reduce it slightly but did not get rid of it. Being a serious breeder I tried a lot of treatments but because I wouldn't sell anything other than 100% top quality I had no option. None of my fish died from it as they didn't get the chance. As I said some fighters arrive in the shops with these patches on.
  23. No idea how to get rid of it but not certain it is a disease either. I culled everything that had it.
