  3. Thats my pick Alex I had 'rios' before - the first lot to arrive in the country and before they were called Rios. There was so much debate at the time as to whether they were actually that fish, it was pretty unbelievable and I think there is a fairly detailed thread somewhere on here.

    lol - never mind :rolfl:
  5. I picked up two 'BN' at about 1.5cm from my LFS but am pretty sure they are not. They are somewhere in my 5ft so if I see them again I will try and get a photo.

Plec is a common term. Thats a Gold Spot, Red Spot or Sailfin Plec - species Hypostomus or Pterygoplichthys at that size (red spot or gold spot or Sailfin) not a Bristlenose which belongs to the Ancistrus species. It's easy to be confused. All more the reason for people using the correct names when selling.

    Blackworms

Half full, loose in the water to send as they need air. Dig them out and then flush them out of the muck?
  8. It's a lovely pond Caryl

They will most likely die and pollute. Set up a container/tank with an air pump and pop them in it. Feed with cat biscuits. Alternatively, if you are willing to put some in a coke bottle and courier overnight to me, I would be happy to purchase them.
  10. I agree the Lionfish is a poor example as it travels widely by its own means - they are occasionally seen off the NZ coast. With the changing world climate and seas warming the invasion that is these fish is more likely to have occurred naturally than by the hands of marine keepers. There is little anyone can really do to stop marine fish from predating on endemic species. However as far as tropical freshwater fish and cold water fish go, that is something we do/can have control of.
  11. Are you sure the yoyo loaches and synodontis are playing nicely?
  12. This time of the year its possible the tank is getting too hot during the day for the BN. What does your thermometer say? There shouldn't be any problems with the Daltons unless it's being dug up and getting into the water column.

One in a 70 litre tank will be fine They are better at eating algae when they are smaller - they also need wood in the tank to aid digestion.

You could put a bristlenose in it. They max out around 10cm.
  15. If I am reading your question correctly the Blue Fin in the photos does not belong to the person with the auction. All those images being supplied are off the internet and are from three different sources. Or are you referring to the Q&A section?
  16. Having all my children home for Christmas and being able to Skype the missing family members in Dunedin and off the coast of the Falkland Islands.
  17. Merry Christmas to you and yours everyone Have a safe and happy holidays.
  18. Or heater burn It's not white spot.
  19. Most people prefer real plants but the type of real plants you can grow in the tank depends on a number of factors i.e. lighting, fertilisers, substrate. Fake plants certainly have their place in tanks as some fish are destroyers of any live plant. If you go up to Home on the top of this page and click on it, it will take you to the website. Look under plants on this, it gives you a list of plants and the requirements. There are also various articles which are worth a read
  20. If you go to FNZAS Home on the top of this page and click on it, you will open up the website home page. On their you will find a heading 'Clubs'. Click on it and the list of clubs and contact details will open up. UHAS is the Upper Hutt Aquarium Society. It has had a number of new members join up recently which is great
  21. Isn't it amazing how family 'want' fish and we as kind people purchase them, only to have to do way more work to ensure they can survive happily in the tank, even to the extent of having to pretty much re-do the set up. TBH I suspect it's going to depend on the nature of the particular ghost knife. If you start to lose fish you will know.
  22. Plants like strawberry, tomatoes, courgette don't handle humidity so I can't ever imagine them handling the heat of a fish room, being so prone to mildew.
  23. You might have to end up what I am having to do - not go away - hubby is going without me
