  1. Well they come in to the shops up here so they must be on the list, you might have to ask. I fear you will be very disappointed as in the shops they look exactly the same as the standard neons. http://www.tropicalfishkeeping.com/prof ... eon-tetra/ scroll down the page in the following link to see a better picture of the standard neon tetra and see how alike they are http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neon_tetra
  2. not sure what you mean by any of your questions Benjanss. There are the standard neon tetra - blue with red There are green neon tetra - blue-green with red . Unless you see these in the right light it is virtually impossible to tell the difference between the blue & green. There are black neon tetra. There are no albino neon tetra.
  3. Further to the above, I was fortunate today to be able to talk with a person who works at MPI. Submissions from individuals are welcomed and if you want to send in a submission regarding the MPI proposal, that is also welcome.
  4. I've started to change to Geismann on my Red Sea -250 and with one tube of the six in, I love them. Main reason for the change was that I didn't seem to be able to get the -250 tubes (not much thought on that one Pet Ware, bringing in a tank but no replaceable parts). As Alex says Barking Buddies has them at a good price. I'm looking into LED from Valray for my 450 planted. It is possible that they can use the current T5HO light casings
  5. I don't recall seeing cleisanthum ever mentioned on here so may not be in the country. Alanmin will most likely know if it used to be here.
  6. The Executive have contacted a number of importers/wholesalers and shops.
  7. A decision on whether or not to submit will be made shortly, however we will not be representing Commercial interests if we do submit, it will be on the hobbyists side of things i.e. the end result. I suggest that if any of those with Commercial interests have a problem with the MPI proposal they become proactive and make a submission themselves or, even better, form a representative group to send in a comprehensive, factual, and totally accurate submission to MPI.
  8. If you are wanting plants perhaps try the wanted to buy section of the forums. You will need to specify what you are looking for as different plants have different requirements and we have no idea how your tank is set up.
  9. It is not good to alienate the people who will make the decision It was good to see your figures, now we need to see why ours differ so much.
  10. Sorry, if I am busy I do tend to hit straight to the point. You could send Caserole a pm, I am sure he will answer. I thought he was more into other species Lots of people seem to be keen to breed them but rarely do you hear of anyone actually doing so, and getting them to survive. Likewise you could send Sophia a pm, she was pretty dedicated in getting them to breed so she might be able to help.
  11. The discussion above is nothing to do with what fish they let in. It is to do with the proposed MPI price structuring and whether or not the FNZAS is going to put a submission in against/or supporting the proposal.
  12. You shouldn't be rude to people who are trying to assist you. Your response should have been 'it's a dwarf puffer'. The dwarf puffer will, one night, start killing off your fish one by one.
  13. Yes, the FNZAS Executive is looking at this. Clubs have not responded, members spoken to see no problem and some in fact welcome the proposed changes. Despite a number of enquiries we have made to importers, wholesalers and shops, we have received no feedback indicating that a submission is worth sending in. We have asked to see invoices so we can see how charges were applied previously - nothing has been forthcoming. We have seen documentation on how the proposed charges are to be applied. As an organisation with a good relationship with MPI unless we receive substantial documented evidence which leaves us no doubt as to a detrimental effect on the hobby, and from a number of those we have spoken to, then it is unlikely we will be doing anything. We are a small pawn in the game, we do represent our members but I also suggest that the importers, wholesalers and shops get their act together and put in their own submissions. We are not here to represent them.

    Show

Can anyone tell me when the last Killie club show was held. Thanks :f77:
  15. Lighting alone won't make the algae grow - except on the glass. You will need an excess of nutrients in the tank for the algae to feed on.
  16. Cannister might just have an airlock in it.
  17. HFF used to stock them. Give them a call.
  18. Hosted by KapiMana Aquarium Club the 2015 Conference is set for Queens Birthday weekend ( Saturday 30th - Sunday 31st May 2015 ) The AGM will be held on Saturday 30th May at the Linden Community Centre in Tawa Wellington. There will be some activities (trips) on Sunday. Accommodation: There is a motel available in Tawa (Bucket Tree Lodge) or either in Johnsonville or Porirua. Both only 10 minutes drive from venue. Free billets will be available and pick up from accommodation to venue for those with out cars should not be a problem. Registration will be Saturday morning, although a get together can be planned for early arrivals on Friday. Pickup and drop offs to train, ferry or airport can be arranged for those requiring it. For specific information about travel or accommodation options, contact the KMAC Secretary (Dominique Hawinkels) 027 231 0409 or 04 232 5806 or [email protected] A registration fee has not been set, but if there is one it should be minimal. Evening meals have not been factored in at this stage as this is dependent on expected numbers attending. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Clubs, please forward any remits to be considered at this AGM to [email protected] by 14 March 2015. Clubs, please send any changes of delegates to [email protected] by 14 April 2015. Further details will be posted as they come to hand. Would you please send at least one representative to the meeting. It is the best way for your members to find out what is going on. There are airfare specials around and it would be nice if you would contribute to your representatives costs. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As with any AGM all positions are up for grabs. The following positions do require filling as the current office holders are stepping down for differing reasons (most have been in their roles for a number of years) - President Secretary Treasurer Breeding Co-ordinator The Executive needs people who will actively promote the Federation and it's Clubs, be it through the internet or in the community. People who will follow through on their promises. Support will be given particularly to those taking on one of the bigger roles on the Executive. All Executive positions, President, 2 Vice Presidents, Secretary, Treasurer, Breeding Co-ordinator, Editor and three Executive Committee are required to be filled. Please consider taking up a position. If you have any questions email [email protected] Thank you :f77:
  19. What did you buy them as and where from? It might help with the ID.
  20. The Aqua One 400 and the Red Sea 400 have very very different specs. I know, I checked them both out before getting mine. I had the option of purchasing an existing tank as well but now I know I did not have the knowledge to be able to transfer a lovely set up to my house and be able to keep it alive. I'm very glad I started at the beginning as its been a steep learning curve.

    Redo

If you are not going to listen to what you are being advised then expect no one to help you when it all turns bad. For the fish you want you need more than one tank. There is no two ways about it. I'll go back to my previous post 'You are not listening to a word you are being told by very experienced fish keepers. Given you lost your goldfish in a disaster I would have thought you would be keen to avoid a further one'. You should not mix cold water and tropical fish. If you are going to do it then it is irresponsible and you are being cruel. That's me signing out as there are other people on here who will take advice on board and provide a healthy and safe environment for their fish and I would rather spend my spare time helping them.

Gold algae eaters are not cold water 23.3 - 26.1 degrees celcius and grow to 30cm. Phalloceros caudimaculatus are subtropical - a few will survive in low temperatures, others live in 35 degrees. 15 - 20 degrees celcius is optimum for them. So you have two fish with different requirements. There's no point in debating the issue - you need to do some research and if you want a cold water tank get true cold water fish. Then you will need a chiller to keep it cold in the summer months.
  23. Pleased to see you haven't disappeared We really need people on here who have done the sort of thing that you have and who will share what has gone right and wrong

    Redo

You are not listening to a word you are being told by very experienced fish keepers. Given you lost your goldfish in a disaster I would have thought you would be keen to avoid a further one. You can not do a tropical looking tank with cold water fish. The bright coloured fish are all tropical to some degree. Why would you want to buy fish and put them through pain and distress, then decide they need to be re-homed? I suggest you do some extensive research on the internet before you even think about buying more. Read at least six articles from different websites on each type of fish then take the information which constantly appears.
