  1. whoops  ammonia nil, ph 7.6
  2. kd123 I was thinking the same thing today, I think somewhere theres a list of meds and what they are for. A list of ailments, symptoms, the meds, the names they are known by in NZ and useful vets would be really good. I have a friend up here who is a trained vet and she just looked blank when I mentioned the word 'fish' - said that she would refer to a specialist, didn't dare ask her where they hung out and how much that would cost! Might pluck up the courage next time.
  3. Ammonia - nil, nitrate nil, ph nil, haven't tested for hardness but have access to a deionizer which I will start to use when I come back from holiday in 10 days time.
  4. No Ron, you're not insane - you're as sane as I am
  5. wilson - you pipped my daughter by 1 - she got 135 NCEA level 1
  6. spudiot 'her' - female, late 40's, 3 children I guess about your age not that you could be expected to know, only a few do and then mostly those from up here or on the IR chat
  7. I'll definately bow to Rons experience on this. The email I got from him said its more likely to be my fluctuating pH more than anything else. Just have to work out how to stabilise it :-?

    Flukes

Not being a meds person do you dose as a preventative or when you suspect the problem.
  9. I gather from various discussions I've read that peat can help lower the pH in a tank. Where do you get it from - is it the same as the garden centre stuff. Would the best place to put it be in the sump? Any idea as to how much would be needed to lower the pH of a 450 litre tank with a sump holding around 100 litres. Is this the most natural way of lowering pH? My pH is currently 7.6 and may have to look at getting it slightly under 7.

    Flukes

Are flukes limited only to discus and angels or can other types of fish get them?
  11. i realised the bit about her head but i don't have photoshop at home - maybe i'll check a work computer tomorrow and see if its on one of the dozens there.
  12. Oh Please! Le Chatelier's principle only applies to a closed system in dynamic equalibrium. A dehumidifier in a room would have negligible effect on the relative humidity to a point where the vapour pressure would be significantly increased over a fishtank. In other words the evaporation rate versus the rehydration rate would not be affected - the fishtank will evaporate at a given rate no matter what.
  13. this is the best I can do - a clearer image I think http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q96/ ... ge0001.jpg
  14. Are you going back next year Wilson?
  15. Has it been sorted yet?
  16. funny Caryl  It will not cause the level of water in the tank to drop anymore than it does already. It only takes the moisture out of the air.
  17. sad Caryl! I unpack the stuff inside boxes, break the boxes down and send them to the recycling so they can be made into other boxes
  18. Help - from us!!! If we had had help at the start we wouldn't be on here   Welcome.
  19. is it in direct sunlight or receiving filtered light during the day. filtered light onto even the smallest amount of my tanks cause the water in them to turn gree.
  20. Hi, seeing as you still haven't worked out the cause I'm going to go back to the sandstone. In an article on the net about sandstone it said that it could be used like a filter. Where did you get it from? I'm still wondering that if that is the case it may have filtered something disgusting! Apart from that or the fact that the gravel may have been old I'm out of ideas>
  21. Tauranga Bay is beautiful - great beach and lagoon area, pretty sure there is a camping ground there. Stayed in a bach there a few years ago and it was brilliant.
