  1. Sandstone? Could it be this, as it is porous - maybe it has soaked something else up.

    GBA is what?

Okay then, I have some golden bristlenose ancistrus with the red eyes, in other words the albino ones. They were sold to me as GBA - so what should these be called. m At the time I didn't know you could get blackeyed ones. This is why I am asking so many questions.

    GBA is what?

So therefore when people say GBA they are talking Golden Bristlenose Ancistrus? If they have the blackeyed version there should be the L no listed as well if its done properly?

    GBA is what?

What exactly should GBA stand for Golden Bristlenose Ancistrus or Golden Black Eyed Ancistrus Some enlightenment on the above would be great!

Fish 8 rams - 2 pairs gold, 2 pairs blue 2 bristlenose - both males I think 5 sterbai corys (1 more still to come) pH7 Ammonia - nil The tank is not balanced yet as far as plants go, the ones on the right are currently taller than the ones on the left. Pics - Full tank shot Right hand side of tank Rams & Bristlenose
  8. Yes, well friends have told me I should have said ' okay then, I'll have that one instead (pointing to the plecostomus that was in fact the $189 fish). But - I didn't want another fish I wanted the corys.
  9. Just wondering, when you all buy your new discus do you put them in a quarantine tank for a few weeks or do you put them straight into your tanks given that they need so much space and such special water conditions?

    Krib + Ram ?

I've had 5 young kribs in with my young blue and gold rams and absolutely no problems
  11. I've spent the last few weeks on my new 1.5m tank and have decided on blue & gold rams, cardinal tetras, discus, corys and a couple of bristlenose. You could go something similar with angels and neons to help keep the costs down. I think a tank this size needs something big in it as well as schooling fish.
  12. Sorry, should have added that he's in Wellington too.
  13. Billaney on this forum has a good variety of really nice fish.
  14. maybe slappers doesn't know how much fun babies are and how much fun it is creating them
  15. Just a light moment today - I have been on the search for some Sterbai Cory for my new tank. Went into one of the shops up here today and spied what I thought was them, went through all the labels on all the tanks - nothing mentioned about these fish being in the shop. Enquired - fair enough the assistants said that the salesperson from the fish section had 'popped' out for lunch - due back in 20mins, but they could probably help me. Proceeded to inform me that the labels on the tanks were correct and the fish I was looking at was 'rare' and '$189'. They were fairly insistant they were correct but if I wanted to wait .... fifty five minutes later I happily walked out the shop with my 6 Sterbai Corys for a total of $54. Note: even then the salesperson wasn't sure if they were sterbai or leopard!!!!
  16. Congratulations from me also. :bounce:

    Corys etc

Yes I do rather like them but none of the shops seem to have them in currently - will wait and will enquire on here.

    Corys etc

Am intending to get some corys or something for the bottom of my new tank. Was going to put in a couple of BN but changed my mind. Have looked in the LFS (multiple shops) and haven't seen anything that takes my fancy - mind you I don't know half the time what some of the fish I'm looking at are or what they do - and haven't seen any corys lately either. Has anyone any recommendations or seen anything around here I might like. Have to be compatible with discus and rams.
  19. my cfs occasionally leak there but its usually caused by something else like one of those rubber washers/seals not sitting properly on the media containers so the whole unit is sitting flush and tight. my cf1200 decided to leak inside my new tank cabinet yesterday, the day before? - only found it today when there was about 1cm of water there and a damp carpet down one end of the tank - the end not siliconed so I can get to the sump. It was one of the rubber seals that must have moved somehow. good luck.
  20. excellent - thanks for the tip!
  21. as above - sometimes its okay but not usually - females yes, but the angels like the long fins & tail.
  22. What brand of test kits do people prefer - for a freshwater aquarium. Same with CO2 setups - what brand/type is the most reliable and for the uninitiated - the easiest to use
  23. Yes, it is an algae bloom - one of my nine tanks has one at the moment too. Try blacking out the tank for two-three days, no light at all. That should help.
  24. fabulous pics - even if these aren't my thing
  25. Yep, fish have their own personalities and like humans don't always get on together. It depends on each fish how it will mix with others - a bit of trial and error will get it sorted eventually.
