  1. epsom salts is a medication - try the health section of the supermarket or the chemist.
  2. I have twisted val growing in the corners of my tank and around my heaters with no problems and ambulia seemed to do okay by the heater as well.
  3. I put my in potassium permanganate for 24 hrs (mixed so its dark pink), rinse them well and stick them in the tank but the snails still survive!!!
  4. Its a shame that they look like that. In the pics of them for sale they looked okay. I can't help but you could pm discusguru and see if he has any suggestions although he will probably see them when he next looks at this forum.
  5. Where do you live up here and when are you going away? Not your street address for security reasons but just the area will do or pm me.
  6. wise   I don't think so, 27 years od fish keeping and 3+ years of fighter breeding still finds me asking questions (some very basic ones too!) of others who may know on this forum or may have suggestions. IME some times they breed and some times they don't some times the spawns are huge 300+, some times 1 or even none some times they grow fast and some times they grow slow and some times they are beautiful and some times they are not!!!
  7. Water Changes - are a thing of the past for a while. You will need to resort to a very gentle syphon of the muck on the bottom of the tank for several weeks being extremely careful not to suck the fry up, use a very very small tube. Add a very small amount of warm, treated water to replace what you remove. If you haven't already check out these sites - I find them really good www.bcbetta.com & www.bettatalk. not sure what the rest of this is. You will need to work out the best method that suits you but raising fighters, while it is both time and space consuming can be very rewarding.
  8. You would be extremely unlucky if there are only 3 - ime because the fry are translucent when the egg sack has been absorbed there are mostly likely going to be many many more. Do what a lot of us do and get a manifying glass. Once they start feeding you will see them easier as their tummies will show. My latest spawn is about 4 days now - I thought there weren't many, now the whole tank has specks through it.
  9. A lot of newly hatched fry will fall to the bottom and lie there for quite a while until either the father picks them up or they develop the strength to get back up themselves.

    Plecos

Thats what I was wondering too. Is anyone on here the seller? I hate it when pics off the net are posted.
  11. Furan comes with the instructions for use if you don't understand what has just been said. Normally its cheaper to isolate the sick fish instead of dosing the whole tank. Reduce the amount of water in the tank to the required amount (whether it be for 1, 2 or 3 furan tablets). Turn off any filters with carbon in them as this will negate the medications. Then follow the instructions re water changes etc. Whatever you do make sure you wear rubber gloves as this is a known cancer causing substance and the capsules can be very messy to open.
  12. They are bio spheres which are excellent for use in sumps and can be used in big cannister filters. They help filter the larger bits of muck in the tank.
  13. so did I until I saw one at the lfs today
  14. Thats fantastic news A great Public relations exercise. Now everyone will go back and tell someone else where they went. I can imagine all the kids going back to school on Monday and when asked to write about what they did during the holidays .... went to Living Art Wildlife Park ..... or ...went to the park and saw birds and .... Well done.
  15. Please, please let it be a sunny day in Tauranga today because its yuk here. While the park is great without the sun more people will go if its sunny.
  16. Have a great day tomorrow and I hope you have crowds of visitors.
  17. my water comes out the tap at 7.6 but the tank normally sits at about 6 - 6.2. If I want it higher I have to do water changes daily. My fish are happy at 6. A stable pH is better than one that goes up and down all the time. If your fish are happy at what it is just leave it.
  18. then its not mine - my ones the one that you asked me if it looked like it had been hit by a hammer and if so send you one of the plantlets. I'm not sure if thats how you would describe it but possibly. I did ask a couple of other guys yesterday if thats how you would describe it and they did think possibly yes.
  19. thanks guys - I also saw most of these - not all of these - for sale in the lfs.
  20. It looks very similar to the plant I was asking you about and thats why I was wondering. My plant now has another 3 plantlets growing off it so I guess its not the same one. I need to send you one of them so you can have a look. I have planted the other two and they are about 8 - 9 cm high now so are growing pretty fast.
  21. Visited Melbourne last week as part of our motorcycle trip over the Great Ocean Rd. Thought I'd post a few pics for those who are interested. I'm sorry but I can't tell you what most of these fish are.
