I have rather a lot of fighters - minimum tank size 7litres although I prefer about 18 litres, heater around 24 degrees, very low current. They don't like those trickle filters with the return powerheads at all!. Any current makes it very hard for them to swim because of the long tail and fins. If only have 1 fighter in a tank try a sponge filter powered by an airpump or something similar.
A very good community fish - only 1 male to a tank though - preferably keep fin nippers (angelfish, male guppies and barbs) away from them as they may nibble the fighters tail.
Lots of food options, flakes, betta pellets, bloodworms, bbs.
Will not eat plants and its up to you if you want a planted tank or not.
