  1. yep, well you can add a few more on than that - my sons nearly 21. I'm nearly as old as you and I know what you mean about taking people as you find them. Forums can be very misleading as to the sex and age of people as we all know. As as for the chicken (hen), if everyone looked after their babies like her it would be a better world!!! Anyway I had a great day and if you need a hand in the future feel free to ask away. If I can help I will. You have beautiful animals, as for the fish - well I forgot to look!!! lol
  2. - so livingart, what was your pre preception of me!!!!
  3. It was great to be able to go and help. Amazing place, very beautiful. Really nice to meet Mark and Caroline.
  4. You can breed brother and sister and you will get variations in the degree of crowning like the original spawn. However further down the track you will need to bring in new blood otherwise the body size will decrease. The other thing is that if you breed 1/2ct to 1/2 ct you will still only have 1/2cts. Use only the very best pair you have. To increase the percentage of crowntail you will need to introduce full cts as one of the parents. Hope this makes sense.
  5. Got back into the country early Wed morning - the tank stunk to high heaven however there are about 60 fry that have survived. They are now in a clean healthy tank so hope that the stagnant water has not damaged them in anyway. They are a bit on the small side still but thats because they've been living on microworms and liquidfry while I've been away. Tonights the first feed of bbs that they have had. On the plus side the parents spawned again today - not as many this time but at least I have a back up spawn. I picked up a platinum blue crowntail male today, he's going to need a bit of feeding and tlc but hopefully he will be good. I'd really like a good blue ct female to put with him, I do have a couple of blue part cts which I will have to use otherwise.
  6. I've been bitten twice lately by the oscars I'm babysitting and while it hasn't drawn blood it certainly hurts.
  7. Well I'm a definite for tomorrow - leaving here at 8am. Will most likely get lost - I don't really drive very much out of Auckland. Have got hold of a petrol fueled weed eater, spare coils and safety gear - and yes I do know how to work it. Will bring a pair of loppers and secateurs plus a spade and some other fishy bits and pieces if I can find them. Anyone want a ride, speak now or forever hold your peace!!!
  8. Get some of the large plastic bins with lids from the warehouse. the fish will survive quite happily in them and when you get to the new place just throw in the filters and heaters and plug them in until you have time to sort them out.
  9. Straight from the tap except for my discus and young fry tanks.
  10. Do you need anything for your tanks still? Have some surplus bits and pieces that I can bring if they will be any use.
  11. yes, nz couriers no problems and I also label the boxes clearly.
  12. Is anyone from Aucks going down to this? I'd be keen to know, would like to go down on Saturday - probably for the day only. Happy to take my car, its only a Honda Accord - older model but could take other willing workers. Any strong males available?
  13. very nice looking - I hope the offspring look like him too.
  14. MarkLB - I've tried line breeding before with ct's and it hasn't been overly successful and have had to introduce other males to keep the body size up. May have another go - it'll all depend on what sex the young turn out to be and how good they are.
  15. Hi Ron He's from Hollywood Fish Farm - one of the platium reds they got in a few weeks back. You'll know the girl of course.
  16. Does this mean that you are now uncrossed Jude Congratulations on the outcome. Does this mean that there will be a working bee shortly? or sometime soon?
  17. Heres my new ct male - I have spawned him with the red female ct pictured. The fry are free swimming and there looks to be a nice number - will see how many are left when I get back from overseas in a couple of weeks.
  18. I'll post some pics of my boy and his girl on a different post so we can compare.
  19. She's just lovely - congratulations. Now the fun really begins
  20. will do. Would also have liked a female of the same colouring but imagine that unless someone imports some females there will be no luck.
  21. He's pretty much identical to my new male - a nice fish. I have a 3 day old spawn from my male crossed to a red full ct male so I can't wait to see what the offspring look like.
