thats a lot of bleach - the sun should have removed what the rinsing missed anyway. if you can't smell it it will be okay. if you can rinse it again and use the sun to dry it (thats if theres any sun down there today! lol)
its wet here again. I've been in auckland for 11 years and never seen it so wet. a friend of mine has had to move out of his house as there is a slip just above him and cracks are starting to appear in the house.
Is the male blowing nests? Is he interested at all in the female. Is she smaller in body size than him.
The prime breeding age for them seems to be around 6 months (others may disagree). I find by the time they are about 9-10 months nothing much seems to happen. I don't know how old imports are but I would think by the length of fins and tail that they are around the 6 months at least by the time they get into the country and out of quarantine.
Have a look at the bcbetta and the bettatalk websites. How old are they, how big are they? How long have you had them? Are they nz bred or imports?
Also can you post pics.
A lot of questions but will help me give you a proper answer.
if you want to have a change of colour use either a marbled or cambodian fighter. you'll get some with cambodian colouring and some not and if you are lucky a mixture of colouring. The biggest colour variation I ever got was when I crossed a 'white' male with a red black and blue female.
I have a 100 litre tank with about 40 odd female fighters in it and 1 male fighter. The female fighters are added and removed as I sell them. There are hardly ever any issues with them unless a cold front is coming through and then they get a bit niggly with each other. The tank is bare bottomed and also holds up to 8 younger males within the blue betta holders you can purchase.
'Exploding' females - are you sure its eggs and not dropsy. I find that if I feed lots of bloodworms my fighters develop dropsy far more often than when I stay away from them.
with males their top fin sort of sticks up in a tuft at the front whereas the females is the same length. females also colour up like krib females with a pink under belly whereas the males only show a little colour. i thought i saw one female at your house the other night but then again i didn't see the males.
just because you have a male and a female doesn't mean they will breed. they are not always compatible, sometimes they are just not interested in each other.
Aaron, theres Daltons Aquatic Mix and theres Daltons Propagating Sand - the aquatic mix shouldn't be stony. I mix the two together and then put gravel on top. Works a treat. (not that its in my discus tank lol).
yep, there are a few neons - not sure how many as they came with a mixed lot I purchased.
Marbled hatchets are about 3cm including tail
Silver hatchets are about 5cm.
