    New Tank

too scared to add more discus - might upset the tank balance
  3. How old are they David - how big?
  4. I only met Bryan twice but please add my name to those who pass on their condolences.
  5. its up to the top and slightly above the top of the tank at the moment - so over 60cm, the light directly over the tank doesn't seem to be affecting it. The plantlets have sent out more plantlet shoots as well. I've left some of it with them attached giving the discus a few more hiding spots away from direct light. Its a lovely plant, i'll let the tank overgrow for a little and then have a sort out as I'll have to thin out the val, osiris swords and this plant.
  6. found out what it was - got in touch with the person who gave it to me. Its a marble sword.

    New Tank

unfortunately no - they went the way that most of the blue and gold rams go hatchets - I'll try and get a pic of them, its hard not to get a reflection off the lights. The tank looks better in life than in the pics but I'm happy enough with it. Still aiming for perfection though - now wheres that piece of wood I want

    New Tank

well time for another post - the tanks been running now for 8 months. Lost one discus a couple of months ago - just stopped eating. It was the runt, now the bigger ones are picking on the next smallest. Lost the odd neon and cardinal but still have 40+ and the rummynose are going as strong as ever. Have moved the driftwood and am on the lookout for a big piece, one with lots of smaller branches so the fish can swim in and out. Have ditched the sump and am running a cf2200 lph cannister filter. The water is clear although my pics don't show it. Had just fed the fish so water looks a bit murky. left side of tank close up mid tank left side a few of the fish
  9. I think the issue was more than likely the temperature in the lab. Given that the heating is on all winter and it gets pretty hot in summer. Don't know how chillers work but would we most probably need to get one. Second cause will be the water quality - I guess I'll be the one who has to keep making sure that the tanks cleaned out enough. He's very keen to have another go at keeping one.
  10. Not sure, it was here this morning but I believe you are not allowed to discus religion on this site?
  11. not knowing anything about these fish - do males 'hold'?
  12. neat pics of the fish - I really liked the way the tank looked when you first set it up, so what does it look like now, can you post a full tank shot? The fish have grown really well.
  13. i don't have any containers but the warehouse or payless plastics have lidded bins or you could use a chilly bin.
  14. So none with solid darker bodies?
  15. Just out of interest, what percentage are yellow like the dad. Have any come out other colours? Are the reds bodies going to colour up or do they look more cambodian. Am very interested in your reply.
  16. Its not likely to be white spot as this is generally a sprinkling of white spots on the fish but unfortunately I can't help with what it may be.
  17. what sort, what wattage. I have 4 lights sitting on the glass top of my 5ft with no probs.
  18. Hi IME only one eye affected is normally because its been in a fight or banged into something. two eyes and its more likely bacterial. I have found that if you put the fish into clean water and isolate it then it normally heals by itself in a couple of days (thats if only one eye is affected).
  19. Nah, its not - has the fathers sheen. Never seen an albino fighter but some of my yellows eyes have been strange as.
  20. Looks like the substrate has been stirred up. How longs the filter been running. You might need to open it up and rinse off the filter wool. My cf1200's wool used to clog up with the substrate. As to fish if you have any surplus use those.
  21. Think I'll get more females than males from him judging from what I've seen with a magnifying glass - theres more female looking fry than males at the moment, even at this early age. He spends all day looking like that. He's a real poser
