  1. Its more the sudden temperature changes that will cause the problems. Bring temp back slowly and all should be ok.
  2. A container/bucket of aged water is all that needed. Feed them dissolved yeast or green water. I found mine in a farm trough.Pays to let the culture mature several times before harvesting for food supply in case of nasties. Had the culture for a year or so now, still going strong. I have three main plastic bins with several smaller green water making buckets. The fish love them.
  3. It will do the same a Peace Lillies do in the tank. It is a terrestrial plant so therefore will mot survive being submersed. Will prob last several weeks, but then slowly start to rot and die. Good luck, let us know how you get on
  4. Exactly what I was thinking
  5. Is there any obvious appearances between you ottos? Is one larger, fatter? heres hoping its ottos On the other hand , if the lone blind tetra is female and for some reason popped out a few, of course they would be infertile, and white looking. Wait and see
  6. Why not just buy a cougette whole, Slice it then freeze it. Simple and cheaper than buying precut stuff.
  7. Cheers for the plant Phoenix Its just the right height to fit in my Crypt tank.
  8. More tanks
  9. Do you think you got a good deal?? It really depends. What else was available? What would it have cost you to buy seperatley? How old is the stuff? Without being given more info, I would say, yeah sound bout right. But in saying that , I wouldnt say it was an awesome deal, just ok. HTH
  10. She must be really old. That is massive. Ive seen some big eels, but that one takes the cake
  11. same supply as me.Im just down the hill. When you do setup the tank, youll have to bring fish up yourself. No fish store anymore
  12. Im watching this thread with great interest. I bought a couple more ottos of HaNs today, so my try myself if I get time after setting up the new tank
  13. I keep tetras in tap water no problems. Generaly speaking, wanganui water is ok for keeping most fish, I used to keep discus no problems. Its just when you are trying to breed that the water becomes a problem. Ive got some Harliquins and Tetras that I have owned for a few years now. Their colours are awesome and they are happy and healthy. Dont let it stop you. Also, what suburb do they live? There is two supplies for wanganui and the Aramoho/wang east supply is notably softer than the rest of town. HTH
  14. Only lucky if you want it hard. I dont  I hate Wanganui water. If your cousin needs help with anything let me know
  15. You will only get seeds if the flower was fertilised.
  16. I agree with that, I once had one which Im sure was a female, she had a massive body size that looked full of eggs. THe others in the tank were same size but not as round. Let us know how you get on.
  17. Yum Macadamias. I love macadamia nuts
  18. Far too cold to grow tropical plants outside now. Even my glosso and Ludwigia are slowing right down with the cold overnight temps
  19. Madagascar Rainbowfish - Bedotia geayi All rainbows are schooling fish and prefer to have at least 4-5 together to be happy. Yes rainbows do tear around the tank like crazy fish but if kept in numbers they are more placid. In regards to stocking, my opinion is the tank is quite heavily stocked. And your plant have little if any chance of survival with silver dollars in there. They love their salad meals I agree with LivingArt as to the cause of the deaths, A mini tank cycle, caused by the cleaning. To explain what has happened... When you have cleaned the tank and filter, you have likley killed off alot of the beneficial bacteria that are required for the Nitrogen Cycle. As the bioload of the tank has remained the same the filter has not been able to process the amonia waste created by the fish as effectivly, therefore poisoning the fish. Best of luck, I hope all the remaining fish are all ok Oh, and welcome to one of the forums
  20. I was subscribing to to full issue last year. The dollar back then was worth a hell of a lot more and that made it cheap. But now it to expensive to get actual mag. I received the offer via email from TFH and I didnt hesitate. For those who are interested, If you go to http://www.tfhmagazine.com/tfh-digital/ to preview the digital edition. so you know what you are getting(which is the complete mag front cover to back) On another note, I bought a stack of older TFH mags from mid nineties, today for $5.00. There is at least fifty mags to read. I wont be bored for a :bounce: while now
