    driftwood

Personally I think the only thing that is achieved by boiling it is a bigger power bill. Chuck it in the tank and do some regular water changes if you dont like the colour. Your fish will love you for it.

Depends on what you want to see in your tank. Tannins wont effect the fish except it will slightly lower the ph. For most fish this is good. The longer you soak it, the less tannins to leech into your tank. I personally like the look of the tea coloured water as I find the fish look more colourful. Personal preferance.
  3. They are only water filters, thats all they do, Filter the water, What is the point. Go put a bucket under the house downpipe if you want soft water.Thats where i used to get the water for my discus. Just heat before adding. Simple
  4. What is the point?? Fridge filter water is the same as any filtered water but cold. The frigde filter is just a carbon filter. no different from running water through a cannister filter full of carbon. It won lower the ph or make it softer.
  5. I use teabags too. cheap and safe. the ones on the string are good as you can remove them easily. English breakfast makes the fish talk funny
  6. Off topic, but can you still buy oddfellows? Used to go to the old ladies house next door as a kid, just to get some as she had a huge jar full on her kitchen bench.
  7. My cat eats cicadas like they are candy. Its gross to hear the crunching as she chews them.
  8. Lol Zabman, do you know something your not sharing???
  9. I recommend doing as stated above and hiring some gear over there and spend some money to get yourself a decent underwater camera. You will see heaps of stuff that you cant describe to people so what better than a photo to show them. Get one with an underwater setting as it balances the colour. Red spectrum is reduced underwater. Olympus do a good one. about$500-$600 HTH
  10. And what is that supposed to mean?????
  11. Hey Dixon I only ever use Daltons mix, and it never seems to really be a problem for me. What ferts are you using? Have you been disturbing the substrate recently? Another thing I find does cause algae probs is drift wood.Especially softwoods such as pine etc. I assume it has to do with the breaking down of the wood releasing nutrients into the water.
  12. Yep thats the Madagascar
  13. What other fish are in the tank?
  14. I can see Madagascar, Maccullochs, and possibly boesemans.
  15. Got them from Hollywoods Mt Roskill When you say for this weekend, what do you mean. Is there a sale happening?
  16. Today I bought two pairs of rainbows Melanotaenia boesemani -Boeseman Rainbow Melanotaenia maccullochi _MacCulloch's Rainbow Very nice fish, They also school together. Ive got them in a tank with some Dwarf cichlids
  17. Alright, who else went? It was awesome, worth standing in the rain since 4pm for. If your interested here is a link to my You tube vids. http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=supasi1980&view=videos Sorry for the sideways vids(they were the right way up on my phone) Also some are very shaky, ie Aces high. I had to move back after a few songs as I was getting far to hot.
  18. What is your water like? Nutrient wise. Im guessing something is missing or is in excess. Work out what and treat it. Do you dose any ferts other than Flourish Excel? Do some biggish water changes and black out the tank for three or four days, then do a water change once lights back on. I find this seems to help me get a control on hair/thread algae. Manual removal helps HTH
  19. Yeah that happend to my boss just the other day. Left the door unlocked for daughter to come home after shift work, but woke to find everything taken. He still wondering how they did it without waking three people asleep.

Tetra colour bit are what my geos like best. They get a variety of fresh and dry foods, but they always seem more keen on the tetra colour bits
  22. Vallisneria is one of those plant thats rules are not set in stone. Regional councils do ban certain plants in certain areas. I just stay on the safe side and dont keep it at all, there are others that will nicely fill that space such as Dwarf sag(which usually aint that dwarf) There is lake fulls of V Spiralis in my area and it is illegal to remove it
