  1. Personally, I say leave it. Id be inclined to dose the tank every second day. Remember that if you change the tank and replant, you dont want to start dosing ferts until you see obvious plant growth. Dosing before then will just feed algae. I prefer DIY CO2 instead of Excel(much cheaper), but thats just me.
  2. The suppier called this plant C Cordata, time will tell as the pic above shows what I think is a new flower. A first for this plant. :bounce: :bounce:  I do hope it is C Cordata, as the flowers of this species that I have seen on other sites is of a neat yellow flower. Will update pics as the flower develops.
  3. Yup agreed, looks like watercress to me.
  4. So can I get in trouble selling it to an Aucklander?
  5. DISCLAIMER: I would just like to announce(in case the powers that be are spying) that I in now way whatsoever condone the trafficking of illegal organisms. that said, if anyone can get some, Id pay good money for it. Have a good safe trip Caryl. PS, if you dont mind me asking, what forum are you a moderator on in the UK??
  6. http://www.arc.govt.nz/albany/fms/main/Documents/Environment/Plants%20and%20animals/RPMS/RPMS%20Part%20II%20Pest%20Plant%20Management%20Programmes.pdf Look at that PDF file and it states Total control on all Sagiterria Species, yet Only surveillance on water Hyacinth. ?????????????????????????? Im confused. you get away with selling Dwarf sag, yet the authorities pounce on those that try to sell Hyacinth. Can someone in the know please try and explain this for me.
  7. I was browsing a thread in the reptiles area about the blue tounge status in Auckland, and came across the link to the Auckland regional Council site. I then immediatley searched the Aquatic Plants list ,(which I've attached the link below) I notice that there is several common aquarium plants that are on the list, ie Sag Subulata. Does this mean when I sell this to someone in Auckland, I am doing so illegally? Or is it just if found outside of a contained aquarium? http://www.arc.govt.nz/albany/index.cfm?6379FDBB-14C2-3D2D-B92F-C9F85E93F9A0&tag=1 Eagerly awaiting responses :-?
  8. Have fun Caryl. PS, if you spot some Madagascan Lace plant while away, can you smuggle some in for me jokes
  9. Im Store Manager for an Appliance and Furniture store. Not my dream job, but a job that allows me to enjoy my hobby
  10. Simon Male 28 May as well be married. She wont let me have anymore tanks. :-?
  11. Sounds like diatoms to me. Usual for newly setup tanks, ottos eat it , or once the balance of nutrients in the tank calms down a bit it should ease up a bit.
  12. Thats some cool photography there Ryan Wish I could ake some pics of my plants as good as that. What camera are you using?
  13. It means buy me something Hahahahahaha
  14. Do you notice a musty sort of smell coming off the tank? If so, thats the cyano. The other way treat it is with erthymicin (sp?) which is a prescription only antibiotic. I only would do this a a last resort as it can play havoc on your filtration etc.
  15. Sounds like Cyanobacteria does it look similar to this?
  16. Its great stuff for plants, Thats all I use. Layer it with sand on top to keep it down as Phoenix stated. In my tanks I have about a inch or so of Aquatic mix with a layer of Daltons Propagating Sand about 2 inches deep over the top. Its by far one of the cheapest substrates and it gives awesome plant growth. HTH
  17. Thaks guys, but I have decide to not get these fish now. Thanks for your offers though.
  18. I think having the tank heavily planted helps lots. Makes any slight neglect in regards to water changes, more forgiving. Well that my experiance 8)
  19. As tirle states. I am wanting to purchase some fis from HaNs in taupo. But Im in Wanganui. The value of the fish is not enough to make shipping viable. Was wondering if anyone maybe passing through this way over the next week or so? Ta Simon
  20. Agreed Mine is starting to drive me insane. Gone and bought a powerhead to drive my sponge filter so I can get rid of it.
  21. Easy to clean off anubias. Just do a bleach dip. Anubias is prety hardy and will put up with a fair bit off abuse and neglect. Pm me and ill give you a link that tells how I do it.
  22. Um Phoenix, it takes over and covers everything, I mean EVERYTHING. You dont want it!!!!!!! justyns, Yeah that looks like the start of it. Do you have snails in your tank?? I found the best way to get rid of it is to keep up water changes and allow Ramshorn snails to take over the tank for a while. You will never get rid of the snails once they are in there, hence asking if you already have snails. HTH
  23. Doei it look like this??? If so, I found rams horn snails mow this stuff. If you can tollerate the snails you will have it dissapear after a few weeks. I avoid adding chemicals etc to my tank at all, and prefer to find out some natural ways to rid of algae. The only algae Ive used chems on was Cyno, and thats not really an algae, but rather a photosynthesizing bacteria. Check out this link for som excellent algae ID pics and descriptions, it also tells of common causes and preventions. http://www.aquariumalgae.blogspot.com/ Scroll down the page for pis etc HTH
  24. A while ago, I had some in my tank that had co2. It grew so fast that I was pulling it out. But I have since tried to do it again with co2 and not been very successful. It kept turning brown and rotting away.
  25. Looks great. Do you have any pics of the swamp filtration? What plants did you use.
