    American Tank

I would have to agree with above statements
  2. Thats exactly what I was thinking Whats that saying? Great minds..........
  3. Get the sand from the sand hills. I am assuming you will be collecting it in Wanganui or maybe Turakina beach? The only thing in the sand that may be bad is salt, and the amount of salt in sand from the sand dunes is hardly worth worrying about. You may find smal particles of shell , but with the added driftwood in the tank it shouldnt make too much difference.
  4. And what is the chemicals that is TOXIC to fish????
  5. To be honest you would prob have more responces if you start a new thread. As people browsing will not see your post unless they read mine. In other words, naff off and get your own thread jokes Actually its something Id be interested in knowing. I believe using a small amount of shell grit will help buffer the water, correct me if Im wrong.
  6. Are you able to be a bit more specific about the sanitizer that comes in the containers. Name etc
  7. Oh oh oh :bounce: Im keen Im keen Just need a way to get them to Wanganui.
  8. A name would be good, thanks Stacey
  9. Im assuming that is for house supply? I am more looking at collection methods for fishkeeping purposes Cheers
  10. Cheers for that, although I think the freight costs are likely to be expensive
  11. I have already made a water catchement setup. I am just after a container to store the water in. Thanks
  12. Yeah they do, but they a bit too pricey for me, and too big. Was all set to put a gutterwitch on the credit card when I thought, there must be a cheaper way. And I made myself a water diversion setup for about $6.00. It works too. Just looking for storage drums now
  13. A bizzare request. Just want to see what other are using to collect rainwater. I want some ideas for my set up. Pics would be great
  14. As title states, I am wanting to know where peoplw get their water storage drums from. Ive seen some on that site, but they are mainly down south somewhere or must pick ups. Surely there is somewhere you can buy these? Obviously , Im looking for foodgrade ones. TIA

    American Tank

But the title of this thread is " American Tank" Correct there are many fish commonly know as Geophagus. Common In Nz is "Surinamensis" I quote that name as that is what the shops label them as, but most are actually Geophagus Altifrons. Keyholes are neat. Not as colourful but very friendly and inqusitive fish. HTH

Do you realise that Jewels are from Africa? With convicts in there, you will find they get aggresive to other fish when trying to breed. And they will try to breed. My suggestion (and its only my suggestion) would be get a couple of Geophagus instead of the convicts. HTH
  17. I would be keen. Although last time the big problem for me was the fact that the meetings were in Palmerston all the time, and being able to find the funds to travel sometimes can be a bit hard. Also working six days a week makes it awkward, as I still have to spend time with my better half and do all the usual household stuff. If we have a few from Wanganui traveling down, then maybe we could share the costs and car pool. Id be keen to help where I can. Simon
  18. Got mine on Wednesday. Thanks Caryl for sending me my Feb copy
  19. Hi silva What part of Taranaki you from?
  20. I had a look in the shop for the pre frozen stuff. eeeekkk $3 something for about 400g you coul buy three times as much if you buy fresh and cut then freeze. Or do what I did, grow them during summer, then cut and freeze enough for the year. Total cost $2.50. best option, hands down, Having no space is no excuse. Grow it in a pot.
  21. Where do you get you spirilina powder from Ron? Ive never tried that before with spirilina
  22. http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/tank-journals-photo-album/34634-behemoth-1600-gallon-planted-tank-23.html Look at this page
  23. You have to go through the pages. very good reading too
  24. Next time you do a water cahnge, use the water you take from your tank. Add daphnia and feed lightly. Dont feed again until water clears. easy
