It was advertised on this site for a week or so before I enquired. I cant believe no one else wanted it. The thing is, it still has no fish in it. It being used to grow emersed crypts, which to me is better than fish

It should be plenty of light for the plants I gave you the other night. They are mostly low light plants. The anubias will end up with algae growing on its leaves if put in too bright a light. The crypt will do ok in the light you have. The sord prefers brighter light, but will grow ok.

This tank(300litre), stand and lighting included, plus a Aquaone CF1000 filter Grand total of $400.

I beg to differ, 2700K is warm daylight as it more toward the red color end of the spectrum.

It is quite a deep tank, so light penetration is not great. That light is nowhere near the size you need to grow anything other that Java fern , Java moss , Anubias and possibly some crypts. you need to see if you can get either T8(cheaper) fitting with at least 2 X 30w tubes(this would still be regarded as low light but much better than whats there now) or even better would be some T5 fittings, although they are more costly. HTH

Lighting is nowhere near enough to grow any plants with(9watt T8).And the color spectrum is not really suited for growing them either(40000k). Can you add more lighting?? You want to look for tubes with the numbers 865 on them. This stands for T8(size of tube) 95 (6500k) closest to noon daylight colour, Direct sunlight is asking for algae problems HTH

Ok firstly, Where did you find that link in the first place???? Cut and paste from above link: It is talknig about an established Planted tank that has been regularly dosed. Although it does state uncycled aquarium The statement I brought up was about a freshly started tank, where the plants are not yet established therefore not actively using any dosed ferts. Imediate dosing to plants that are not using nutrients will cause a build up of nutrients in the water colomn. Allowing algae to get a start. Please note, When I talk about dosing ferts, I am talking about adding to the water colomn, NOT under substrate or root tabs.

Sorry , to answer you first question. Darker colour substrate brings out the colour in most fish. I have local beach sand in my Axylotl tank and it looks great. I think kribs would be quite happy in it.
