  1. ~*whew*~... glad to see I wasn't that far wrong. lol
  2. Is this for a planted tank? This thread may get more hits in the Aquatic Plants section. I think that'll work but its just a matter of finding the right light spectrum bulbs and mounting them. Considering they can't be too close to the water/glass as they'll get really hot. All that said and done though, thats roughly $110+ a light fitting and you'd need a few just to even out the light above the tank, which wouldn't be cheap. Thats my 2 cents anyway.
  3. yea you can use an old appliance cord. or an extension cord just in case you need the extra. and when you say light holder you are meaning endcaps, and ballast on an entire bracket, right?
  4. i do have some 5ft ballasts for cheap if you want to go custom... just get some waterproof endcaps and its all go if you have a big enough hood. but the 5ft lights would look strange on a 4ft tank, don't you think? lol
  5. FRUSTRATION !!! had to break the tank down today... pinhole leak coming from the front pane of glass at the bottom  . broke the tank down, and resealed the front pane. hope it holds. not too keen on 200+ litres (still haven't worked out the literage) all over the lounge floor. will keep everyone posted. test fill in a weeks time. should be long enough to cure the silicone, and give me some time to get the fittings for the cannister filter. *fingers crossed*
  6. oh hell i'd help the winner catch that!!! could be fun... this time it would be a goldfish hunt since i missed the molly hunt.
  7. yup i'll do that today. got no plans so i'll check them out. cheers
  8. thats what i was planning to do but can't find all the bits just yet. i don't mind putting the intake and outlet tubing over the top of the tank for now. thats why i just wanted to plug the holes rather then block them off for good.
  9. yea i saw that. but i think purplecatfish said he tested it at the AFKA meeting we had on tuesday as well.
  10. i think purplecatfish did... i think it was him that tested the ph and stuff when he got back.
  11. Ok finally into the 4ft tank build... The Jebo 819 filter arrived today in the post so I had no excuse to put the tank off any longer. Substrate was aquatic mix and riverstone pebble. I'm gonna be adding in plants over the next few days so I'll keep everyone posted in this thread. Jebo 819 in place. In case someone wanted to know this is a 1200lph filter. Plumbing in place. Topview onto the riverstone pebble Full tank shot after it was filled with water. You may notice that theres an overflow pipe in the corner. I didn't want to block this up as I do want to put these to use in the future so i just added a longer downpipe. In the opposite corner at the top is a return hole that was drilled. That hole has been plugged as well for future use. The contents of this tank will be the contents from the 2 2ft tanks that I've been running for the last 4 or so months.
  12. txt Normal call or Video call?
  13. When I go to the meetings, we all approach on Godley Rd and park at the back of the New World. The hall is only a stones throw away from there.
  14. cheers adodge. i'll give them ago.
  15. just like to wish every1 thats goin good luck.
  16. i just picked up 2 bags of the daltons aquatic mix for two 4ft tanks. there may be some left over if anyone wants it. don't think i'll really need the leftovers as i won't be upgrading the tanks til i move. does kings sell daltons propogation sand? i couldn't find it at the silverdale store. i was planning on using brightwater gravel mixed with small riverstones and a layer of propogation sand between the aquatic mix and the gravel. still not sure about it tho. :-?
  17. I am Mr Do. I am sedentary by nature, enjoying passive entertainment, eating when the mood takes me, and playing with my food. I try to avoid conflict, but when I'm angered, I can be a devil - if you force me to fight, I will crush you. With apples. (If you were not Mr Do you would be an Asteroid.) ok thats pretty spot on. lmfao ok while you guys play master system and mega drive i'll blow the dust off my atari... Joust, Millipede, and Pitfall still work fine. lol but i'll always go and play alex the kidd just for the janken matches... they were fun. lmfao
  18. i have a semi setup 3ft tank with a durso (just needs the glass chamber its in to finish it off). might have a bit of piping around here somewhere as well.
  19. cheers for the comments guys. lol as for the 3rd and 4th tanks, they'll be running really soon. just a matter of getting filters and lighting. lol

  22. the catfish looks pretty cool. pity google search didn't bring up a photo of 1 in colour. but B/W is good enough
  23. there is a trader on trademe that sells the ballasts for cheap. "afishe" is the name. not sure if he visits this forum. they are ballasts to run 2 x 58watt (5ft) tubes. then all you need is the tubes and a hood and your away if thats the way you mean by DIY lights?
  24. how easy would it be to get the converted fire extinguisher bottles filled? just wondering. i've always seen the 200gram bottles on the kits they sell. well the ones i've seen anyway.
