  1. found this on this site. hope it helps evil http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/-vp101820.html
  2. i've already read into a deep sand bed. that is a definite addition to the upcoming tank. the protein skimmer is another definite, as is a MH light and a flouro. i guess all the help i need with now is how i set up the sump. is it better having the compartments in this order: From Tank/Skimmer - Refugium - Return or would you advise another way that i could do with the 3 footer?
  3. i'm pretty strapped when it comes to cash so i'm looking at cheap ways of gettin around filtration methods. i have lined up a protein skimmer but i'm looking at the benefits of having a planted refugium as well. from all the stories i've read about them, they seem really good to have. but either way i might just stick with the liverock and sand you suggested. thanks
  4. so would you suggest just putting liverock in the refugium instead of the macro? i read somewhere that using a mangrove refugium would eventually cancel out the need for a protein skimmer, as well as lower phosphate levels, and nitrate. lighting really isn't a problem.
  5. yup the above answer that alan gave is the right equation to work it out. your tank holds around 112 litres.
  6. hey guys. i was looking at making a sump with a refugium as i have a 3foot tank that i can use. i was wondering whether i should use macroalgae or a mangrove set up in it and how i should set it up? the tank measurements are 970(L) x 400(W) x 320(H). any info would be great.
  7. i think what alan is trying to say in the above post, is the tank a full 90 degree angle on 1 corner and 45 degree angles on the other 2 or is it like a triangle with equal angles on all the corners etc.. if it has a full 90 degree corner then his answer would give you the right literage. sorry for explaining your post alan. no offense i kinda got what you meant by it.
  8. i'll be in this list soon. just trying to get a 4 foot tank as the 3 foot tank i'm getting seems a bit small. just a matter of time...

  10. yea marcs pleco tank is awesome! it was lookin thru his site that made me want to have a go at a reef tank. i was originally gonna go for a simple tropical freshwater setup til i found the site.
  11. i'm from East Tamaki/Otara area. I know there is a South Akl club but me and my friend that got me back into fish will probably join the same club.
  12. my friend will probably want all that, as her tank is pretty bare. i can ask her and see what see says.
  13. I am looking at joining a club. when is the next meeting so i can get more details about joining?
  14. i'm looking at starting up a reef tank soon... just aquiring all the necessaties at the mo. i just got a 3ft tank with an overflow, and another 3 ft tank i want to modify into a sump. just waiting on my friend to tell me how much she can get some MH lights for, then i'll look at skimmers.
