  1. you can ask tony(goldfishman) on trademe. he makes custom tanks.
  2. yeah definitely pm wok. i'm only on the other side of the motorway from you.
  3. where abouts in south auckland are you burgo? i did try emailing the south auckland club but signed up for the auckland fishkeepers association. they're really helpful.
  4. welcome to the forums 24mech
  5. hey guys. just came across this and thought some new people might like this. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pe ... 046422.htm
  6. yea but with the given dimensions of the tank thats gonna be built, all that is needed is 1 sheet big enough to do the ends and the supports. the other 3 sheets do not need to be cut at all. unless you can't use safety glass for a tank? only adjustment would have to be for the height. just add 6mm to the height for the thickness of the bottom glass. in other words all that is needed is 2 sheets that measure 370mm x 358mm(take off a mm or 2 for silicone thickness) and the support pieces. whether that be the normal sides and middle bracing or euro-bracing. and thats not including a lid. if i were you just check out a glazier and see if he has any 6mm offcuts that will be suffice as a replacement for the glass that broke. depending on the size or quality, you may get it rather cheap. hope this helps. try asking greg or 1 of the other tankmakers on here for advice. they're always helpful.
  7. i thought they only spoke mandarin in hong kong and cantonese in the rest of china? could be wrong. there's different kinds of pods apparently. but like it says on that site, they'll eat baby brine shrimp too. that would be easier to sustain in a young tank then "pods".
  8. can't you still make your 85x37x37 tank? just find glass on trademe or the trade&exchange for the ends and bracing.
  9. nope nitrate is the last form of a cycle. its goes from ammonia > nitrite > nitrate.
  10. they eat pods. need alot of live rock to start a colony of them. if you find 1 that eats "dead" food you are VERY lucky as they're really picky eaters. here's a link to marks site. he's got info about them on there. http://www.melevsreef.com/mandarin_care.html
  11. wouldn't trust it... it was used to carry diesel. but good spotting anyway.
  12. lookin at the pics its hard to believe its the same tank. awesome progress ! makes me want my marine tank so much more now. just a matter of time (sump tanks are being made and i should be picking them up next week). Keep up on the updates.
  13. euro bracing is strips of glass on all sides around the top of the tank isn't it?
  14. http://www.fishtankguy.com/setup.php just a snippet taken from the above site Sump Filters - used for large and more complex aquarium setups . Use a sump filter when needing a very large biological filtration system. Water trickles out of your tank and over media where bacteria is farmed for the purpose of breaking down the ammonia and nitrites in your aquarium. A large sponge prefilter catches the big debris before it enters the sump. These are the most expensive forms of filtration but also the most effective for large aquatic environments. These filters are heavily used on large saltwater systems and reef tanks.
  15. ask greg(tanks2u) on here or tony(goldfishman) on trademe.
  16. i'm an avid photoshopper and nothing in that tank really stood out. except for 1 section in that last photo layton posted. other then that it looks like a normal pic...
  17. a plastics shop? like payless plastics or a place that does packing. would a camping bed work? you know, the bed roll foam things?
  18. exactly what i was gonna say. i think they split. i'm sure i read a thread somewhere about it.
  19. yea i remember havin a pet scorpion when i was there. it grew pretty big 2.
  20. while you're over there, check a reef shop in highett if its still there. it was an amazing little shop when i used to go in to check what stock they had. Having a shark and moray eel in their display tank was pretty cool for such a small shop.
  21. you can get the loc-line in new zealand. go to www.somethingfishy.co.nz and in the search box, type "product". it'll bring up 1/2" loc-line, 3/4 loc-line, and SCWDs. i contacted the owner of the site and they said they had some SCWDs. must contact them at some stage to let them know to fix the site... :-?
  22. yea i was looking at getting some more pumps with closed loops. perhaps a couple SCWDs as well. i really don't like the looks of powerheads and such which is another reason why i was looking at fake sidewalls. i also know to restrict the return to minimise microbubbles thanks to the link KP gave me. perhaps 2 closed loops with adjustable flow heads like what i found on the SomethingFishy.co.nz site. i will settle for 1 overflow like you mentioned however. just thinking of how i can set-up the plumbing to make sure i still can make all the adjustments from the back without having to battle past tubing.
