  1. na its all good. i got some plants from the club so the least i can do is offer some back to its members
  2. hey guys. i'm bringing a bunch of ambulia to the meeting if anyone wants it. its going nuts in my tank and i've had to trim it back.
  3. We all start somewhere. lol. I need to upgrade to T5s as well. Too many plants in my tank to put up with 6 4ft T8s over the top of it...
  4. i think the ends of those lights are extendable. have you looked them up on google?
  5. Yup, they're T5s. Petplanet sells em. Here's a link to the page. Think its one of the cheapest prices around for T5s but don't quote me on it. http://www.petplanet.co.nz/index.php?pr=Lighting Yea I'd say go T5 by the sounds of your tank set-up.
  6. Ok what is the light for tho? Is it heavily planted or just lightly planted etc. For a medium-heavily planted tank, I'd suggest T5s. But if its lightly or hardly any plants then T8 tubes might work out better. It all depends on what is in your tank or how you want it to be (whether its gonna go full on with plants or be solely ornaments etc with less plants, or more light to make the fish easier to see). You also have to remember that with this hobby (most of us are hooked and are always looking at upgrades), that spending a little more money at the start saves you alot more money later on. Just keep that in mind . Hope this helps
  7. mine seem to feed on crushed up flake or frozen daphnia.
  8. Imperial Gallons = 45.5L US Gallons = 37.85L Just for future reference if you need it : Conversion Calculator http://www.saudia-online.com/conversion%20Table.htm#vol
  9. check it up in the search option. also look in the DIY section for it. should be in the 1st 3 pages. moonlighting gives the impression that the tank is outside under a full moon. its really good as the fish aren't plunged into total darkness and you can still kinda see them and their nocturnal habits (if they have any besides sleep).
  10. everyone pretty much knows now. but if someone doesn't know one of us regulars will. hopefully you have fun over there mate
  11. auckland meeting or north shore meeting? if its an auckland meeting you want to go to, pm wok. he'll know.
  12. use the ramshorns as thats what we use in our axy tank, but my girlfriend swears by mystery snails as thats what shes had in all her tanks
  13. why dont you try getting some snails, i find mystery snails have never done any damage to my plants and they are awesome on algae
  14. yes gravel vacs are needed to clean the substrate although i'm not that sure about the FX5. i know its easy to do water changes with it, as there is a hose that you turn a tap on and send the dirty water into a bucket or out a window. you can message purplecatfish to find out about how quiet the filter is. although we couldn't hear it running when we were at his house last, it may be a different story at night when people are trying to sleep (which seems unlikely).
  15. Both Hollywoods, Origin Aquatics, and Pupuke spring to mind...
  16. I think every person in here will scream "FX5!". General maintenance with this filter is really easy from what I've heard. The canister filter you mentioned before will still work. Although nowhere near to what the FX5 will do.
  17. Hollywoods has some new corals in wasp. Just got back from there. Same type as before and an open brain Bali coral.

    hey

    Welcome to the forums
  19. Think a sump filter is having another tank set up with a trickle system filtration with bioballs, filter wool, etc. But you will need an overflow of some sort on your tank. eg. The link you gave is to a cannister filter. You will need two of those filters to get enough filtration. For the price of two of those, you'd be better off getting an Fluval FX5 from hollywoods.
  20. I use Aquatic Mix, Sand, then Coarse gravel. I use the coarse river gravel to stop my plecos from ripping up the plants. In the other tank its just Aquatic mix and Brightwater gravel.
  21. cadbury Salt or pepper
  22. have you had a read of the post Blueandkim made in the "Aquatic Plants" section. very helpful post in the "black algae" thread.
  23. i was told they don't eat established hair algae. only new stuff. need flourish excel or something else to get rid of the old stuff. still need to get some more.
  24. yea sure. i'm in there getting something at least once a week so i'll keep an eye out.
  25. just got back from hollywoods again. the price is $99. maybe a lighter shade of brown under their halides but it definitely looks like it.
