  3. its stomach was very puffed up & i just saw her blow a heap of muck out her gills & the bloated look has gone but she's not looking good.
  4. i have just noticed one of my pictus cats has an open wound on her side & has a small bit of gut poking out, im guessing she tried pushing through a gap in the rocks that was too small & has scraped herself up as the is a mark on the other side of her belly too. is there anything i can do to save her?? she is still swimming around but is all over the tank, going from top to bottom alot. any help would be great.
  5. nice tank alright love the baby surinamensis!!! my kids love showing people the fish & telling them which is which!
  6.      ive just put the bracing on the top & will leave it awhile before i fill it, it says 7 days to cure, not sure if i ned to wait that long just for the bracing but i think i will just in case. then i will find out if my resealing job is good enough, it looks pretty ugly but the worst is at the back   I'll let you all know if it springs a leak!
  7. i have to agree with what others have said about making a frame then lining it with mdf, what are the uprights made of? im hoping u dont say just mdf, heavy doesn't = strong.
  8. thanks for all the offers ive had a couple of pieces dropped off by another member i was just really suprised at the difference in prices between the shops. & i had seen a new 3ft tank with 10mm glass for $120 on tm before christmas!
  9. glad to here the bn's are doing well!
  10. thanks, i'll have a look when bf comes round, its a 2 person job lifting the hood, wonder if they'll take it back without the cardboard tube it came in, kids thought it made a great sword
  11. i have a few bright plants & no algae, too many bn's  but the whole tank looks like homer simpson has dropped one of his radioactive sticks in it :-?
  12. the light blew on my 4ft yesterday so i went & got a new one from master trade, it said cool daylight, put it in & now my tank has a horrible green glow to it
  13. i have an undergravel filter on part of the tank & the pit is down to that, i thought they were too small to breed yet, but time will tell!
  14. i have 4 & have noticed the smallest has been pushed into a corner by the next smallest & the 2 bigger ones are hanging out more & 1 has been making a huge pit down one end of the tank. i have some java moss just rolling around & it seems to find its way to the pit & the is being dragged back out by the fish, the biggest 2 are only around 8-9 cm so would this be spawning behaviour?
  15. bugger! my uncle is an aluminum joiner as well but away for 3 weeks! i dont mind paying $20 for some glass, good idea tho
  16. yeah thats what i thought, it was one of the smaller glass companies so i guess they were trying to make a quick buck.
  17. it would have taken me an hour to catch the one i had & pull the tank apart to do it!! some how i dont think he would have listen to me either.
  18. most of your other fish will dine out on the fry!! id get another tank!
  19. just been on the phone to get some supports for the top of my new tank, i cant believe the price range for 2 bits 5mm thick, 46cm X 15cm the range was from $17 to $171. it was around $20 extra to have the edges polished from most places & some said the could just "run a stone around it" for nothing & it would be fine to use. the $171 price was with polished edges & i had to ask the lady to repeat the price because i thought i had heard wrong   so it pays to shop around!
  20. good luck, im not expert ( far from it ) but i think how you set up your tank will be really important & giving them both a nice area each maybe thats divided by plants, rocks etc may help?????
  21. you show off  did you know the locals eat them when they are big, expensive meal but i guess not to them.
