lol, i like the name flip!! i dont name my fish because of the curse, if i name them they die anyway i got 2 surinamensis yesterday & have decide to have a speices tank of them, looks like i need to get another tank for my other fish to go in, i cant sell them as i like them to much!!

the lsf said 4 would be max for my tank & they had some big ones in there but she didn't say they got to 30cm, the big ones where about 15cm.

yeah i like rams & Kribensis, found some cool fish called surinamensis, anyone know much about these guys?? ive been looking on the net but cant find much about them at all.

ok, so im now really thinking its a bad idea!!! the thing is what i really would like something in my tank that schools & is colourful, i kinda think having a 300L tank with bits & pieces in it is a waste, whats everyones fav fish????

only seems to be the 2 yellow fish he has a problem with, i have danios, pictus & hoplo catfish, bn & a couple of lace gouramis.

the one i have seems to hate yellow fish! i have a golden algae eater & a golden gourami & he chases both of them & leaves the other fish alone.

yeah im starting to wonder if the 2 i have just dont get along.

hi, ive been clearing my 300L tank to make way for some redtailed sharks, ive been reading they are fine together as long as you have more than 2. after a trip to both of the LFS yesterday im not to sure if its a good idea, most of the sharks had shredded fins, im wondering if its from fighting, they are in small tanks which i guess could be a problem, does anyone have any thoughts on this or keep a group of sharks? my tank is well planted & has heaps of hiding places. im thinking if they are not constantly in each others line of sight the may be ok???

i kept f/w crays for about 2 years, they will eat your fish if they get a chance, they wait untill they are swimming past & grab hold of their tails, also snails are on the menu, we used to catch them at taupo round the boats using a piece of meat tied to a string & dangle it down to them, they would grab hold & you could slowly pull the string up & grab them. you need a lid on your tank because they climb up the airline, found this out the yukky way, got up one nite to use the loo & stood on something abit squishy...it had got out of the tank & crawled into my bedroom....

can anyone tell me what their pictus are like, 1 of mine is always out swiming in his area or goes off to patrol the tank but the other 1 stays hidden in a cave till after the lights go out, sometimes it comes out during the day but not often. ive had them for about 3 months & noticed in the p-shop that one always hid but it was a very small tank they were in, mine is a 300L so theres plenty of room & i read they like to live in groups. maybe its just a shy fish???

adding weight to the jebo heaters being crap, i have 2 300w in my 300l tank & only 1 seems to go & they are both set on 20 to maintain 26 degrees, setting them high causes the water to skyrocket to 30. one completely failed & got up to find my tank on 19 & some sad fish, got it replaced but they seem to be rubbish.

hi, i gravel vac mine once a week, its always amazing how much poo you scoop up over such a short period of time.

with Redwood Aquatics & tankgirl3 on tm & both are great, i got a price list from Redwood Aquatics on their fish & they are very good compared to what we pay up here for fish. still looking forward to going to aucks to have a look later in the year!

& notice an extra $30 a month, has anyone put polystyrene on the back of their tanks to try & keep some heat in? wondering if its worth the effort.

i have noticed my siamese fighter has suddenly lost some colour on his body & his head, but one side of his head has gone a really dark colour, other than this he is still happy & swims around like normal, just looks like all his colour has drain out of his body & gone into his head! any ideas on what this is??

i just love going to fish shops & wondered why i can never find fish that are mentioned on here, tm seem to have a good selection but never round palmy & not all people will ship. i have a big community tank & want something colourful in there, i have a wanted post up for some rams, hopefully someone will have some.

ive only been keeping tropicals for about 6 months & wonder where people get all these fish from as we dont have them here, i saw the post you have for flying foxes, never seen them & plecos, i didn't know there were so many, i seen about 3 different ones here & thats it.

yeah they have cool display tanks but nothing really cool to buy, i go in there alot & the fish i read about in here ive never seen at WP.

what are the fish shops in everyones area & how good are they?? for a city the size of palmy we only have wet pets & animates, abit sad really!! im looking forward to going to auckland in a few months & checking out what they have up there.
