  1. i'll try farmlands tomorrow after work, just chucked another dose of formalin & malachite in because they look like crap.
  2. just posted a reply to the thread in that link. i dont have a spare tank now  i'll head off to the vets tomorrow but im not hopeful, ive tried getting my hands on stuff for my rabbits & didnt have any luck, its the same with stuff for fish, i need to get a supply from someone privately. just been watching the fish & even one of the bn's was twitching & the baby geo's & ram have just had twitching fits. if it comes to me flushing all my fish do i need to strip the tank or just do a huge water change & leave it for a while? theres alot of plants in there so could it be left with just them in it ?
  3. ok, an update on this been in touch with some one i know that was working for a drug company for pets, the problem is that not alot of vets are willing to give their support to new product lines for cats & dogs let alone fish!! i was told to get in touch with brooklands but unless there is a real demand it just wont happen. at this stage the best thing everyone can do is to either pester fish product suppliers or someone find a supply & have a backyard business & supply us all! sorry it wasn't more helpful but now im just waiting for a responce from someone else.
  4. right the long story is, i shifted twice in 2 weeks, both went well for the fish, i had a spare tank so time in buckets was only going from one house to another, internal filter was in the tank so i just put it in a bucket aswell. its now been about 6 weks since the last shift & during that time i have lost 2 bumble bee garras, they seemed to go very red around the gills & died very fast, neon tetras have disappeared ( no big deal ) my geo sur's started flashing off the bottom, clamped fins & one went red inside its nostrils, died a few days later, theres 3 geo's 2 small & one about 10cm, 1 blue ram, 2 neons, 3 bn's & 1 small gold spot. the geo's are all flashing & twitching & the big one is getting what looks like white spot around his gills. ive tested the tank water, ph no far off what it was before shifting & water has been tested at the lfs & seems fine. over the last 6 weeks ive treated with salt then tried melafix & a dose of formalin & malachite green at 1/3 the dose ( because the lfs said it had killed theres when they used it) then a dose at 1/2 strength. the white lumps come & go & now they are back & my big geo is looking like a train wreck again. should i just flush the lot & start again, because the lfs dont know whats wrong & i dont know what to do next. any ideas would be great.

i'll be watching the feedback with interest, for that amount of money you think they could have tried to post a picture of it.

not deep enough! wonder if thats just a pic of the net
  9. i struck it lucky & got a 3ft on tm for 50c but i wouldn't pay much for a second hand one, my new 4ft 350L tank from wetpets was only $220
  10. i have to go with GAE & bumble bee garras
  11. well two packets of food later my new ones are, the cat CAN open the pantry & CAN open ice cream containers. and yes i do feed him.
  12. as a matter of interest, does anyone dose their fish on a regular basis to prevent parasites?
  13. i believe its called the christmas tree effect
  14. i had a group of six & all of them had caves & like to stay in them. they had active times of the day when they would come out & go nuts but i had dim lighting, they are very active at night.
  15. how big is your pictus cat? i wouldn't keep them in anything smaller than a 3ft for too long, they like to have plenty of room.
  16. i think if you plan on doing it properly then keeping detailed records is a must. It will help you track who has produced what & give you a better idea of what to expect a few generations down the track. (coming from a bunny breeder!)
  17. some things are just really easy to over look or you think "she'll be right" my latest is, even if the fish food packet is sealed your cat will just eat through the plastic to get at it. dont be lazy, put it back in the cupboard!
  18. best of luck wth these fish, i think they look great but i wont buy any more after losing my 3, they stopped eating & faded away one after the other. if i try again it will be if i can get my hands on some home bred ones not from the lsf.
  19. mine have been, when buying gear for your tank, buy the best not cheap crap, or you'll just end up replacing it. always have a Q tank for new fish if you decide to be lazy one week & not do water changes, the next week you see something wrong with your fish & wonder if it was becuase of your lazyness. even if yours are the same as mine add them anyway & we'll see what the most common lesson has been!!
  20. thanks guys, 4 days with no phone or net was a killer! ive tried scrubbing it but the black muck comes off the whole thing, i dont mind the tea colour to much but the black stuff in my filter is a worry so i haven't put it back in.
  21. have had my new tank set up for about 3 months now & the water is still tea coloured, which i dont mind. but there is alot of "stuff" just floating around in the tank & fine dust on everything. my filter does 1000/ph but just wont clear the dusty stuff & i need to clean the sponges every week. ive been pulling the tank apart to shift today & have found alot of black muck coming from 1 bit of wood, ive scrubbed it but the more i scrub the more crap comes of it. it came from the lsf only a couple of months ago but im sure its the reason for the problems. what annoys me is its new & i think it needs to be chucked already. ( its a big picece of wood too!)
  22. make sure you feed him well, it looks abit skinny, blood worms or some sinking pellets always go down well.
  23. lucky you, i tried telling the 1 in palmy that the pictus cat i got from there had white spot & they wouldn't believe me, even tho the tank it came from was under Q for white spot!
  24. did the fish shop know how long you had had your tank up & running?
  25. looks good!! remember to check new fish carefully & like carol said i wouldn't buy fish that have just arrived at the lsf!
