    OMEGA ONE v NLS

Hi there, i do weekly water changes, monitor my ph check temp daily, especially after adding new fish. I didnt just stop feeding my usual NLS and novarift and start just feeding the omega one, i just gave them a small pinch of the omega one flake at night as well as the trusty others. In All fairness i have a majorely mixed tank mainly malawi (not that this bothered the pemba they were bold as brass) with mostly mbuna but also fronts which i got after the tropheus. All i can put it down to is that food as tejhy spent the first month chasing each other round and grazing on the coral happy as larry then just went of there food and started dying. It sucks because they were colouring up so quickly and appeared to be in perfect health after 5 days feeding the omega one all turned to shit

    OMEGA ONE v NLS

thats what i had been feeding the ones i got of you, then i got some of this omega one flake and after feeding for a couple of weeks with the nls noticed stringy poos from the tropheus so stoped feeding, have lost 3 so far 1 looked really bloated the other2 did not. I doubt that the rest will survive which sucks coz they were happy as for the first month so i wouldnt recommend this food for tropheus, as all the other fish in the tank look great

    OMEGA ONE v NLS

have been using omega1 for a couple of weeks, think it might be killing my tropheus, up the top it says vege flakes and talks about kelp and spirulina and at the bottom it says protein formula. which one is it? NLS and novarift are my favourites. but i am new to tropheus so it could be me :dunno:
  4. put it outside in the sun, after a few days it will be bright white
  5. one dead, looked slightly bloated, others look ok ph and temp normal :tears:
  6. from what i have seen they seem to spit there young much earlier which seem to just hang around the parents not seek refuge in the coral like all the africans i keep then beat up anyone who swims near. ive seen a 4cm brichardi in a mixed overstocked african tank taking on 12cm auratus, pretty staunch fish
  7. Hi all can you please tell me what you feed your tropheus?, I have recently purchased some beatiful pemba from aaron and have just been feeding my usual NLS and some omega one vege flake, i havnt used this before but the dude in the fish shop told me it was the best food for africans and seeing as they didnt have the usual nova rift flake that i normally use bought it anyway. The first couple of weeks the pemba were full of beans but now seem to have slowed down and shy away at feeding time evn though i still see them snacking on the algae. I looked at the omega one food today and the protein content is 37% is this too high am i going to give my fish bloat? :dunno:
  8. would you be willing to sell a few of your rustys anything over 4cm would be great. i might be going to hamilton on thursday, or i could swap you for a few male electric blue fryeri and a couple of girraffes?
  9. Cool when are you coming to tauranga next? Im wanting to get rid of some male electric blue fryeri, Ps socolofi, a few red empress some girraffes, blue zebs, snow whites etc all pure bred and very attractive fish, want them all gone at the same time so if your interested and you can pick up coz some are quite big let me know 022 044 0147
  10. Ive always loved the look of them but when i started my african tank i was told by all the big wigs to stay away from these in a community type setup because they get super aggressive as they get bigger, but my experience with africans is its all about territory tank size and ratios, i had a group of about 10 blue zebras thye dominant male was so aggressive he killed all the males in one night and would even beat his females to death when they were holding. I think you get bad eggs in most species its just a matter of getting rid of the problem maker or rearanging the tank until you find harmony. I am currently thinning out a tank and getting rid of a breeding group of socolofis so i can buy some of these and your dems, time for a new look. very nice fish. if your ever in whakatane mate let me know should be able to send you home with a few malawis differnt to what you have, always something spare :nfs:
  11. cool is this the smaller sized pellet?
  12. Hi I was hoping someone could tell me the cheapest place to buy new life spectrum for africans, mostly mbuna last time i bought a 2.2 kilo tub for $150 on the net but cant find the person i got it off is this still available or does anyone buy it in bulk and sell it on?
  13. i have 4 2 foot tanks all with undergravel filters hooked up to one air pump. i dont bother about air stones because the bubbling from the undergravel filter which aggitates the water surface seems to be enough. i use the smallest grade lime chip i can find for my substrate and with weekly water changes maintains the ph at 8 and is very easy to vacuum up muck. i have a 100w heater in each tank but at this time of year you never see the lights going and in winter i just cover them with a blanket at night. i havnt lost one fry and have seen no change in my power bill. i have had no problems putting the mums straight in those tanks from my main tank or just tipping the newly spat fry straight in if they spit them in the net. hope this helps as i have found it to be very cost effective
  14. bummer dude, that sucks. I let my neighbours feed my dogs and cats when im away but i always make my mate travel 35mins a day to feed my fish, cost me a few lagers but worth it in the long run
