  1. Ok I got a reply from Mike Wise who is a Apistogramma guru and this is what he wrote: The lateral band is diagnostic for a hongsloi-complex fish, so they are one of the many forms/species of hongsloi-like fish. My bet is a domestic strain. These are usually a mix of forms. Very nice fish. The one with the black half face probably has nerve damage that prevents her from manipulating the melanophores on the face. Sometime this fixes itself, but usually does not. It won't affect her as a breeder (not a genetic problem nor contagious). Yay they are hongsloi females :bounce:
  2. Your email being the president one? I clicked the email button but my computer doesn't roll like that.
  3. I see what you mean about the red on the top of the dorsel fin, now its just the waiting game I guess. I still hope they are honsloi's. I wonder if I put a male honsloi in there if you would be able to tell by the offspring.
  4. I meant looking like the female in the pic of the topic I posted in haha I thought she looked rather orange but may have been the lighting. Will give them a week for them to settled in and take some more pics and post them
  5. Hey Jennifer, have you looked at the new pics I took of my apisto's? looks like your female in these pics that you have posted. Maybe they are hongsloi :bounce:
  6. Well I managed to get 10 out of the 16 eggs into a container so we will see how it goes. Today I will go buy some meth blue and a air stone.
  7. Thought I would start my old thread since I kind of took over the other one (sorry). Some of you may and may not know I just brought two female Apisto's that were sold to me as A.hongsloi but I'm not so sure they are and neither are other people by the sounds although I still have my fingers crossed they are, anyway I just got home from work and took a few more pics of the other female without the half black face and it looks like she has lost alot of the orange colour she has had which I'm guessing was from stress.I have also posted on another forum that is for Apisto's so am hoping to get an I.D. from there as well. So here they are I used the flash on my camera as well cause she was hiding in the shade of some plants.
  8. I might try the ice cream container trick
  9. Me too but I have no spare tank
  10. Today I was looking at my tank and saw my female Trillineatus cory was looking pretty fat, I turned away for a minute or two and next thing I knew she was laying eggs on the front glass with the males close behind her doing there thing. I'm undecided if I should scrap them out and try to raise them myself or just let them be food for the rest of the fish. My other tank I had set up for breeding is now occupied as some of you might know.
  11. I still haven't got an answer from anyone from the other site either so posted these pics as well. Next week I might get another small tank and they can have a tank each to themselves.
  12. Ok I got some more pics, as you can see they aren't as red as before. I only took pics of one of the females and it just happened to be the one that has a half black head as you can see in the reflection of the glass.
  13. Well I haven't got an I.D. yet so am going to take some more pics today, now they are less stressed they aren't as red. Fingers crossed they are hongsloi.
  14. That colbalt blue discus is going to look mean when he is big.
  15. Ok so its not just me who is undecided then  All well I will wait to get told off about the pics then haha I was actually in a rush when I took them cause I had to go to work.
  16. HFF Albany and this afternoon. Jennifer - Yeah it doesn't really does it? I posted these pics in the apistogramma forum so hopefully someone will I.D. them there for me and we can have an answer
  17. Haha I told you my iding is bad. The reason I thought they might be young males was because of the dorsal fin. Anyway would be good to find out what they are so I could breed them. If they are hongsloi I might have to take you up on the offer for a male
  18. Ok so I went and brought them and took some pics for you guys too see but When I was having a closer look at them (as its hard in the shop) I'm pretty sure they are both males here are the pics sorry about the size of them I'm not sure how to resize them without making them small.
  19. Yeah there are two in the same tank both females I think. I would get both but the tank I have set up for breeding is only 46x26x26 so might not be big enough for both of them and a male when/if I can find one.
  20. They are being sold as A.hongsloi I didn't think Apistos could interbreed, can they?
  21. Possible but that website I posted with that pic was the closest I could find to the ones I saw. I could get them cause they are nice but I don't really want to fork out the money if I don't know what they are and if I can't get a male for them to breed
