  1. P44 - How much do you guys pay for cardinals down there?
  2. I don't know if I want to take the risk with the whiptail I might have to rethink this one. I did think of getting Pencilfish instead of the hatchets but the hatchets are just so different looking and a little school of them would look awesome I think. As for the Cardinals I have had them before and they weren't picky at all, yes they are beautiful but I think rummynose tetras are as well. Next pay day I think I will get some more cories if they have any and maybe a pair or German Blue Rams.
  3. What PH is your water coming out as?
  4. So your the one that brought the E. uraguayensis I went to HFF to buy that but it was gone so I got that marble sword instead although they did say they could order one in for me.
  5. Thanks guys. P44 - I got them from Hollywoods who sold them as Julii's after I brought them I was looking at difference's of them on the net and thought they might be the face ones, shame they charged the same as proper ones but never mind I do like them and am hoping to try breeding them. It's going to take me awhile to stock this tank especially with hatchets at $30 each  what do you guys think about the whiptail? will it ruin my swords? I'm still trying to decide if I should get the Cardinals or Rummynose. I'm leaning more towards the Rummynose but am thinking with them the tank might have too many silver type fish in it
  6. Thought I would post some pics of my Juwel Rio 180. I have just changed over from African Cichlids back to a planted tank so its only been up and running for about 1 week and a half. Sorry about the crappy pics I'm not sure how to get them down to size cause photobucket has changed since I last used it and everything is different  I am going for a Amazon kinda theme and think I am happy with the way it is planted right now just need them to grow out. I'm running a diy co2 and have just asked a friend in Hong Kong if she can look for a pressurised co2 unit for me so I won't have to spend $700 for one over here. Right now I only have 5 Julli Corys in there but for stocking am thinking of the following: Julli Corys x 5-10 Hatchets x 5-10 German Blue Ram x 2 Rummynose Tetras x 15-20 or Cardinal Tetras x 15-20 whiptail x 1 Enough of the talk and time for pics. http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i68/l ... 0005-1.jpg http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i68/l ... 7. I have a rio 180 and love it but would of gone for the rio 250 if they had of had any on sale at the time I got mine. People complain about the filters in them but I think they are a good way of hiding heaters etc as well as run just sponge's in there. It makes the tank look better. I also have one of those 3d backgrounds on mine so you can't really tell the filter is there.
  8. There is one on trademe that is going for $250 reserve with ehiem filter and plants, fish etc. Really good deal just have to pick up from Palmy.
  9. Sounds similar to my rio 180 apart from the fish stocking and your pool filter sand looks different to mine. Oh and I have one of those juwel 3d backgrounds on mine.
  10. Yeah thats possible, I did look at doing that but can't remember the reason why I didn't
  11. The only reason I kept the standard filter was so I could hide everything in it e.g heater, temp probe, 2226 intake and 2213 intake. I also just have course and fine sponge's in there as well.
  12. Yeap 3 filters you can never have too much filtration I reckon but thats just me. As for the $200 each well the internel filter comes with the tank but the other two I got off trademe for cheap 8)
  13. I have a Rio 180 in my bedroom and the only hum I hear is from my external Ehiem 2213 & 2226 that I run as well as the internal one.
  14. ohhh pics please. Whats it like compared to the retile one?
  15. I know its my tank and I am asking for peoples opinions to help me decide because I can't quite make my mind up I will post some pics up at the end of next week when I have it done and see what people think.
  16. I'm going to use them in my new setup, the guy at HFF said they are fine but he wouldn't if you have plecos. He has them in his tank as well.
  17. Thanks everyone I'm leaning more towards number two now and figure if I don't like it I can just siphon it out. Now another question should I use coral rock? or river stones? river stones will be free since we have a garden full of them. I am also going to use one of those reptile one rock backgrounds instead of the juwel ones which cost an arm and a leg to buy (the juwel ones that is).
  18. Not 100% sure yet but prob peacocks and haps.
  19. Thanks guys keep them coming. Once I get more opinions I will make a decision. I reason I'm leaning more towards option 1 was the buffering effect that that coral sand will have and I'm not too sure if option 2 will do that. Its just sand I got from bunnings a long time ago for a tank but I didn't end up using it.
  20. I'm setting up Lake Mawali tank and need some opinions on what you guys think looks better. I have 3 options for sand and am a little undecided between 2 of them but will put all three in and tell me what you think. Option 1: I really like this one but don't think I have enough for my tank. Option 2: Not too sure about this one. Option 3: I quite like this one as well. Its a mix of option1 & 2.
  21. I might have a little play around and see what happens. Time to read up I guess.
  22. I know there are a few threads in the diy section on how to make them but I'm wondering if there is anyone that makes them to sell? I don't want to make one because I think it wouldn't turn out very nice and I don't really want to spend $300 on the Juwel ones since they are $99each and I would need three. Can anyone help me?
  23. I didn't watch the video but I have owned a saltwater tank and always defrosted mysis shrimp before I feed because the phosphates are bad for corals.
